the importance of
Rainforests
Why are they important
Rainforests are important and provide many products that we use in our everyday lives. They provide us with oxygen that everyone needs to survive, also many prescription medicines come from rainforest plants.
Medicinal Purposes
More than 7000 modern medicines are made from rainforest plants. They can be used to treat problems from nagging headaches to killer diseases like malaria. Even animals can be used to cure human diseases. Only 1 percent of the known plants and animals of the rainforest have been properly analysed for their potential.
Stabilizing the water cycle
Rainforest plants help to stabilize the water cycle. Plants absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which is poisonous for animals and humans. The plants release oxygen into the atmosphere which humans and animals need to survive.
