FRONTIER EAGLE NEWS
Back to School Edition - 2020-2021
WELCOME TO THE 2020-2021 ACADEMIC YEAR!
Dear Frontier Families,
It is with great pleasure that the staff of Frontier Middle School welcomes you to the 2020-2021 school year! We realize that the start of each year brings excitement for a new beginning along with a bit of nervousness regarding the transition to a different grade level and/or school. This year is certainly no exception. Our staff is busily preparing for a year that will surely prove to be unlike any other. As we navigate through these uncharted waters together, we are committed to ensuring that each student feels connected to our FMS family and that he/she is challenged to learn and grow both inside and outside of the classroom.
With the District's recent movement from Level One to Level Two, we have taken the liberty of outlining many of the changes in the "Level Two Information" section within this newsletter. Please know that we are fully committed to the safety of your child and are taking measures to ensure a healthy learning environment for both our students and staff. While the year may not be what we would have once envisioned, please be assured that we are confident that the measures we are taking will allow our students to continue to learn and thrive at FMS.
Our staff is eager to kick off the 2020-2021 school year, and we are looking forward to continuing traditions of excellence at Frontier Middle School as we work collaboratively to ensure each student’s success. While this may be a different kind of school year, we are committed to helping all of our Eagles soar!
Sincerely,
Dr. Laura Rowe, Principal
Mr. Stan Johnson, Assistant Principal (7th Grade)
Mr. Kevin Kuehl, Assistant Principal (8th Grade)
LEVEL TWO INFORMATION
Here are some key points to keep in mind related to Level 2:
WSD plans to begin the school year in Level 2 and remain there throughout the first quarter.
If needed, we could potentially move to Level 3 during that time.
Students attend in-person on Monday & Tuesday or on Thursday & Friday.
AA (Monday/Tuesday) students are identified by the first letter of the last name of the oldest sibling in a household (A-L); all siblings in the household (regardless of last name) will be AA students
BB (Thursday/Friday) students are identified by the first letter of the last name of the oldest sibling in a household (M-Z); all siblings in the household (regardless of last name) will be BB students
DAYS CANNOT be switched.
Student attendance in classrooms will be approximately 50%.
Middle school students will follow their typical schedules during in-person attendance days.
Students will access learning activities virtually from home three days a week. Virtual instruction will include learning activities assigned by the teacher and live instruction on Wednesdays.
All students attend virtually on Wednesdays. Attendance will be taken. A schedule for this will be forthcoming; however, students and families should plan for approximately three hours of live virtual instruction each Wednesday.
WSD Virtual Academy students will remain in their enrolled grade level and courses regardless of what level the District is at for in-person learning.
SEVENTH GRADE PARENT NIGHT
Unfortunately, we are unable to reschedule our canceled Seventh Grade Parent Night from last spring. We will be sending home a presentation soon that covers important information for our seventh grade students and families.
FACE MASKS
LOCKER USAGE
WATER BOTTLES
Students will be allowed to carry water bottles, as drinking fountains will be off-limits. Water bottle fillers are installed in each of our team hallways. We recommend that students come to school with clear, filled water bottles, labeled with their name. Soda, Gatorade, Powerade, flavor-adds, etc. will not be permitted. Teachers will be provided with paper cups that they can provide to students to use if they do not have a water bottle.
STUDENT SCHEDULES
Mrs. Amy Koeln (7th Grade): amykoeln@wsdr4.org
Mrs. Deb Kerns (8th Grade): debrakerns@wsdr4.org
We realize that many students look forward to the opportunity to walk through their schedules during "Locker Day," and we are saddened that we are unable to accommodate this prior to the first day of school. Please know that our staff is prepared to help our students navigate the building. They will be strategically stationed to assist, as we are committed to helping our students feel comfortable and safe as they navigate our school.
AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES/SPORTS
OPEN HOUSE
VISITORS
ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL
Buses will unload and doors will be opened for student entry at 7:15 AM. Any students who arrive at school before 7:15 AM will be asked to enter the school lobby. They will be required to wear their masks and practice social distancing.
CHROMEBOOKS
*Please look for more information regarding the distribution of Chromebooks, especially for those students who have enrolled in the Virtual Academy, as we will not see them in person at FMS. We are currently working with the WSD to determine a safe and efficient process through which to get Chromebooks into our students' hands.
The Responsible Use Policy (RUP), Access Initiative (1:1) Agreement, and Device Insurance forms will all be completed online through the Tyler SISK12 Student360 website and app. The RUP must be signed by Tuesday, September 8; otherwise, the device will be disabled.
Please note that device insurance is not active until the $20 payment is sent into your child(ren)’s school.
The Tyler SISK12 Student360 website can be accessed from the homepage on the district website or by downloading the Student360 app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
