Classroom Spelling Bee this Friday!!!

It's time for the class spelling bee. The winner and runner up will be going to the school wide bee in December this year (the exact date is still to be determined). Here, again, is the link to the words we will use for the class bee so that your child may study them. We will start with the fourth grade list and move up from there. The class bee will be held in our Language Arts class this Friday, November 15th. Not everyone needs to participate, but anyone who wants to may. We will have two winners from Mrs. Taylor's class, and two winners from Mrs. Stern's class. Here is the link:

Stern's News!

This week in Language Arts:

READING: We will begin to read and discuss informational/expository non-fiction text. We will also be looking at non-fiction text features and how they help us determine meaning. This week will also focus on stating main idea based on important supporting details.

WRITING: This week we will look at examples of good expository writing. We will try "coloring" the samples before we take our expository writing piece from last week and expound on it.

SPELLING: This week's spelling words come from Unit 11. Our spelling skill concept this week focuses on contractions and comparative and superlative suffixes er and est. Spelling words for the week will be recorded by students in the far right column of the week's agenda. Pace Language Arts students will have an extra 8 words per week. Any students wishing to include the pace words into their spelling test may do so.

Important Information!!!

Class Blogs!

Students can access their homeroom's class blog from home. The blog gives them an opportunity to practice writing and communication skills in an ever expanding digital world. We have discussed the importance of students using their best "netiquette"! Manners online are just as important as in person. "Treat others how you want to be treated!"
