Ms. Newton's Notes
Happy Monday!
We hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend. I am loving the change of weather. Fall is one of my favorite times of the school year. Please make sure that students have at least a sweater or jacket with them each day. Whether it's recess or traveling outside for Spanish or Music classes, it can be a bit chilly in the mornings without some covering.
A few reminders:
- Tomorrow is a Professional Learning/Work Day for teachers; students should not report to school.
- Drop offs in the mornings should occur in the horseshoe driveway only if it is along Fifth Avenue or along Oakview after 7:20 AM. Please do not use parking and non-parking spaces along Fifth Avenue for drop-offs and U-turns.
- Read-A-Thon money from pledges are due! Please send those into PTO right away.
- 5th grade Movie Night is this Friday! Please check below for more details
Girl Scouts collecting Halloween Costume Donations
What to do with your costume AFTER Halloween? Renfroe GS Troop #13565 is collecting costumes. THANK YOU to everyone who donated last year, we were able to collect over 80 costumes! So we are doing it again this year. Don’t waste valuable closet space holding on to those “too small” costumes for another year. Bring them to the collection box by the front office.
- The collection box will be available November 4th through 8th
- We are in need of all sizes as we have a wide range of ages to fit
- Accessories like hats, wigs, gloves, etc. are also helpful so the children can make up their own costume
Georgia Parent Survey
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is a national leader in the collection and analysis of school climate data through the implementation of its annual Georgia Student Health Survey (GSHS). The GSHS is an anonymous, statewide survey instrument developed by many divisions within the GaDOE including the Assessment and Accountability Division and in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Public Health and Georgia State University. The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. For parents who do not have access to the Internet, the media center will be open from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM to allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school on the media center computers. All parents should be encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous, self-reported, and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.

5th Grade Movie Night is Friday – Volunteers Still Needed
5th grade Movie Night is Friday, November 8. We will be showing Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse.
For those that are new to FAVE, Movie Night is a free event--an opportunity for our young people to enjoy a movie, snacks, and their friends--all by themselves! We provide a bag of popcorn and the option to purchase additional snacks (with a limit of $3 spending). Kids can bring a sleeping bag or pillows to enjoy the event in the FAVE multipurpose room. It is for FAVE students only, no guests. Parents drop off for this event, so we have a school administrator and parent volunteers to supervise the evening.
We are in need of parent volunteers for 2 different shifts: popping popcorn (4:15 pm-6:15 pm), and chaperones (6:15 pm-9:15pm). Chaperones will assist with checking in the kids as they arrive, selling concessions, and supervising during the event. Please sign up here.
All chaperones should meet in the FAVE lobby at your assigned time. This event will be for FAVE 5th graders only---HOWEVER, if you are volunteering and you have a child in another grade (or school), they are welcome to attend with you. Please just let me know via email so I can keep a running tally for the head count.
If your 5th grade student wants to attend the movie, please sign them up here. This is for 5th grade movie night attendees only:

Read & Raise-A-Thon – Last Call for Donations!
Thanks to our awesome kiddos and parents, we’ve raised a ton of funds so far to help fund field trips, teacher grants, diversity & equity efforts, family picnics, movie nights and free yearbooks. We’re very close to hitting our goal, thanks to you. If you haven’t yet sent in your donations, please do so today! And don’t stress… if you need a few extra days, we will gladly except checks, cash or online payments (www.favepto.org/read) through the end of this week.Walk&Roll to School – Tuesday, November 12
We’ll be handing out numbered certificates to all Walkers & Rollers as part of our monthly Walk & Roll book drawing. If you cannot walk all the way, consider driving to Harmony Park (corner of Mead, Oakview, and Eastlake) and walk the final 0.4 miles. There are plenty of parking spots around that area, and you’ll be sure to meet many other families doing the same. Additional 'Stop, Drop, and Walk' routes to F.Ave are found here (https://www.csdecatur.net/Page/1647). If you must drive, please be extra cautious that morning, as there will be lots of extra children walking or riding their bikes. Give them extra room (remember, a 3 foot distance is the law, but more is always better!), as they might not be as sturdy or mindful on their bikes as adults. Questions, please contact: kendallhamilton@bellsouth.netInterested in Volunteering?
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. Please complete this form or email ptovolunteer@favepto.org to let us know you're interested in helping out.
