OPPORTUNITIES
Psychology Peer Mentors Needed for the Fall 2019-Spring 2020 Academic Year
Interns Needed
LifeSTEP Interns
CALLING ALL PSYCHOLOGY UNDERGRADS
The psychology clinic has established a community service agency that provides undergraduate life skills training (and mentoring) to school-aged youth with emotional and/or behavioral problems. The vast majority of these children are from a minority group living in poverty in Tucson and are struggling with a variety of emotional and behavior problems. We are currently accepting applications for Fall semester. As a LifeSTEP (Life Skills Training and Enhancement Program) intern, you would be meeting with your assigned youth once a week for about 4 hours each time. Activities might include going to the movies, getting an ice cream, going bowling or spending time at a park, etc (you would be reimbursed for your expenses including gas).
You would receive 3 units of internship credit (393 or 493 depending on your U of A status), and you would have the opportunity to receive training in this area. If you are interested (and are at least 18 years old), please complete the APPLICATION & email it back to julief@u.arizona.edu. We are especially in need of male interns (due to the large number of older boys in desperate need of a positive role model), but we are also in need of many female interns as well!
I look forward to hearing from you - Julie

Naturalistic Observation of Social Interactions (NOSI) Lab
Director: Matthias Mehl, Ph.D., Professor of Social Psychology
Job Title: Research Assistant (RA)
Commitment: Minimum 2 semesters (Fall 2019 and Spring 2020)
Description:
This project studies the daily behaviors and social interactions of adolescents who have recently been hospitalized for suicidal thought or behavior. We do this using a naturalistic observation tool called the EAR (Electronically Activated Recorder), a device worn by participants that makes periodic audio recordings as participants go about their daily lives.
By sampling their daily behaviors and interactions, we are able to examine how things such as how family interactions and peer relationships influence resiliency in adolescents following a hospitalization for suicidality.
RA Responsibilities:
· Transcribing and coding recorded conversations
· Typically 9 hours per week (8 hours for coding and 1 hour for meeting)
· Attending weekly lab meetings during which we discuss what we’re learning from this project as well as relevant research.
· Writing a two-page essay at the end of the semester providing insights of what you have learned.
Qualifications:
· Reliable, responsible, and hard-working students who are interested in clinical, social or health psychology
· No prior research experience required! We provide hands-on training in behavioral coding, and current freshman and sophomore students are strongly encouraged to apply
· Spanish-speaking students are strongly encouraged to apply
Note:
Because of the necessary training, a two-semester commitment is required. These projects provide valuable first-hand research experience for students who are thinking about going to graduate school!
To Apply:
Please send a copy of your resume and a brief description of your interest in this project to Deanna Kaplan at: DeannaMKaplan@email.arizona.edu as soon as possible. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis throughout April.
Participants Needed
This research study examines the relationship between childhood trauma and attitudes as an adult. The survey should take anywhere from 10-15 minutes to complete. The only requirement for participation is to be at least 18 years of age. If you qualify and choose to complete this survey, you may enter into a raffle for a prize (Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker). A separate form will be given at the completion of the study to receive compensation; therefore, your results will not be linked to your name in any way. Thank you for your time!

Arizona's Career Mixer - Students and Alumni
Thursday, May 16, 2019
4:00 - 7:00 PM
Heard Museum, 2301 N Central Ave Phoenix, AZ 85004
What is it?
Wildcats, Lumberjacks and Devils will gather for the 9th Annual, just-in-time career mixer. The event is tailored to students and alumni of Arizona’s three fine state institutions and the companies that are interested in keeping university talent local.
Attending companies and organizations are specifically looking for talent to meet immediate full-time and internship hiring needs in Arizona.
Network with hiring companies and student and alumni from all three of Arizona's state institutions and be sure to bring business cards and resumes to exchange with employers and peers. We're connecting the best.
Format
This is a mixer format (not your traditional career fair format/venue) with the focus on personal interaction and small group conversation. Each employer has a high-top table.
We encourage you to help engage the crowd and try to avoid lines forming. Students/Alumni have been encouraged to exchange business cards and resumes.
Suggested attire is "best business" (respecting Phoenix's summer heat).
