January 6, 2020
Dear parents,
Enjoy the holidays with your family! Here is what’s happening in MS when we return in January.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: After the break we will finish reading and analyzing “The City of Ember”. The students enjoyed the movie and were eager to discuss the differences between what we’ve read and what they viewed. Also after the break, we will be working on phonics that will help us read multisyllabic words and we will continue with vocabulary tests. Spelling will be incorporated into the program and there is also the school spelling bee on January 22nd. Spelling tests for the month of January will be suspended. Students will also have a weekly assignment in No Red Ink, so please look for that in Google classroom. They will get one 20 minute session a week in class to work on a practice and quiz. If they don’t get it done, they are responsible to finish it in seminar or at home.
7th Grade: We are very close to finishing “The Giver”, which we should finish the first week back. Students will then delve into the literary elements of the novel as well as the author’s craft.
