Ingredients

-1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
-1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice
-1 ½ to 2 cups of fresh water
-1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
-2 tablespoons of honey
-A few ice cubes

Why These Ingredients?

Avoid a Precipitation Reaction

Precipitation reactions leave a precipitate at the bottom of the reaction. For our sports drink we want to avoid precipitation reactions so that our drink doesn't have any solids at the bottom.

Electrolytes vs. Non-electrolytes

Electrolytes are a substance that conducts electricity when dissolved in water. Non-electrolyte is a compound that does not conduct electricity when dissolved in water.

Strong Electrolytes-substances that only exist as ions in solution. Ionic compounds are typically strong electrolytes. Strong acids, strong bases and salts are strong electrolytes.

Weak Electrolytes- only partially dissociates in solution and produces relatively few ions. Weak acids and weak bases are also weak electrolytes.

Non-electrolytes
-does not dissociate at all in solution and therefore does not produce any ions.

Molarity

Molarity measures how much of a substance is dissolved in another. In other words Molarity measures concentration.

Molarity (M) = moles solute/liters solution

Surface Area, Temperature, Agitation

Surface area and agitation allow for a solute to be dissolved much quicker. Temperature allows for more of a substance to be dissolved in a set amount of solvent.
