Summer Intensive: Creative Writing Sampler
Week 1: July 31- August 4; Week 2: August 7 - 11: Both weeks from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Join experienced writing instructors and published young adult authors like Jacqueline West, Anne Greenwood Brown and Jane Fredericksen as they explore writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama with students. Illustrations, graphic novels and comics will also be featured. Week I will consider fiction (novel and short-story including historical, sci-fi/fantasy and adventure) and non-fiction (biography, memoir, and topical). Week 2 will provide an overview of drama (plays, screenplays and audio scripts) and poetry (spoken word, rap/lyrics, classical forms). Students can take one week or both. For those interested in publication (although it is not a requirement), student work will be considered for submission in The Boom Site. If desired, students will also have the opportunity to read their work on Voices in the Valley, a radio show broadcast every Saturday morning on KLBB and podcast on iTunes, Stitcher and GooglePlay Music.
Intensive staff includes writing experts from local schools, professional editors and published young adult authors. $150 for one week; $250 for two weeks. (Tuition includes snack, but not lunch.)
Programming will take place at St. Croix Preparatory Academy, 4620 Stagecoach Trail N, Stillwater, MN.
