Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
February 10, 2019
A Message from the Director
Parents and students,
My grandson, Kolton, loves a song by Twenty One Pilots that goes like this, " Wish we could turn back time to the good old days when our momma sang us to sleep, but now we are stressed out". Many of our CA students can relate to this song about now. February is a stressful month for most students. The fear of failure, the anxiety that there is not enough time in the day to do everything, or a I don't know what to do, so I will do nothing feeling takes over! The best ways to combat stress are: get plenty of sleep, exercise, eat healthy foods, unplug from social media and screen time, and make a plan! I would encourage all students to plan their days with the end in mind. Look at when their tests, quizzes, papers and projects are due and make a plan everyday to work to completion. As Mr. White says, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!" If you need help making a plan, ask your Pathway to Success teacher. She will be more than willing to help you get rid of Stress and on your way to Success!
Remember Collegiate Academy is in session on Monday, February 18. All students must attend school that day, except those on Optional Flexible School Day Program!

FAFSA & Final Aid Information:
Students, BEFORE you can apply for Federal Student Aid, the student AND the parent MUST have a FSA ID. Please request that now as it can take a few weeks to get your FSA ID. From the FAFSA Website (https://fafsa.ed.gov): It is very important that you and your parent create and use your own FSA IDs. The FSA ID acts as a legal signature and should not be shared. Letting someone else create your FSA ID is not allowed and can create problems and delays with your financial aid. For more information or to create your own FSA ID, go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid. If your parent does not have a Social Security Number, he or she will not be able to get an FSA ID through the online process. In that case your parent will print, sign, and mail in a paper signature page.

Valentine’s Day Sonnet Performances
Have you ever wanted to show someone that you care in a suitably dramatic fashion? The Theatre club is offering Valentine Sonnet Performances! For $2 you can choose from a collection of Shakespearean sonnets and verses that a theatre student will read dramatically to a recipient of your choice on Valentine’s Day. For $4 they can read something you wrote (must be approved by Ms. Haney). This is a unique way to say “Happy Valentine’s Day” or even a good way to annoy someone with Shakespeare. Our sonnet performances will be for sale during lunch in room 1219 from February 4 through February 8 to be delivered on Valentine’s Day-February 14th. The proceeds will be used to help fund one of our future productions! Please see Mrs. Haney with any questions
