Stars and Wish
- Seeing the intentional lesson planning for the reading groups with notes observed during the lesson has to be great for guiding the next steps of instruction with those kids! Those types of plans is a BIG STAR!
- The strong organization found in most rooms extends the learning time - all kids know where to go and what to get as they get to their assigned rotations adds time to their learning!
- I noticed a few people with guided reading lesson plans that had the teaching point and praise point for students as anecdotal notes. Sharing this during student conferences allows the kids to hear what is going well and next steps in their learning.
Wish:
- Begin to plan backwards - when is the end of year assessments and what still needs to be taught. MAP window is April 22-May 10. During next grade level meetings we will set grade level times for testing - ALL testing will occur first thing in the morning and we will make each testing session manageable and spread it out to hopefully get the best results. Special classes will change during testing times. iReady testing for 3-4 will happen AFTER the MAP.
Trauma Tidbits
Finding ways to disengage stress helps as well. Taking time to stretch, take deep breaths, or brain breaks can help with fatigue, nervousness, and promotes mental clarity.
And finding ways to have student cooperate and connect is important. Disconnected students are disruptive because of lack of impulse control, low frustration tolerance, and decreased self-regulation skills. A connection with an adult or other children can help the impulse control system of the brain and generate a neurochemical that says, "Pay Attention."
