2/1 On Campus learning resumes following established am / pm schedule

Dear Westwood Families,

We continue to share our thanks for your patience as we navigate through this pandemic and working to provide the best possible learning environments for students.

We are committed to re-opening school and want our students back on campus. We miss our on campus students and families. Last night our Board approved the following for elementary schools:

    • January 19: when PUSD will reopen full-day preschool classes and ESS programs on campuses; resume in-person individual special education supports, instruction, and related services on a case-by-case basis.

    • Between January 25 and February 1: when Elementary schools can reopen for on-campus learning with the AM/PM schedule; special education classes can resume on campus (preschool through adult transition); small groups at middle and high schools can return to campus

Due to staff availability for a variety of reasons, including the impact of COVID isolation and quarantine, Westwood will open 2/1/21 resuming the am / pm instructional model.

In Partnership,

Jennie Mikels, Principal

Just a reminder the Monday is a non student day and January 29 is a non student day.

Just a reminder to families that the 2021 February break has been shortened from five days off to just two days off due to COVID-related adjustments to the 2020-21 school year calendar. There is no school on Monday, February 15 and Friday, February 19 due to the observance of Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays. However, school will be in session Tuesday through Thursday, February 16 through February 18, so students are expected to attend class on those three days. Spring Break remains the same, Monday, April 12 through Friday, April 16. The last day of school was changed to Friday, June 18, 2021. You can view the official District calendar here.

Transfer Window is Opening

The PUSD transfer window is opening soon!!! Transfer requests for students who live in the Poway Unified School District boundaries and who would like to attend a school other than their school of residence will be accepted starting on February 1 at 8 am. This includes incoming siblings of current students. Transfer requests can be made on the Poway Unified School District website at www.powayusd.com. The transfer window closes on March 31 at 5 pm.

If you have an incoming transitional kindergarten, kindergarten or new student, please submit a transfer during the open window, even if your child is not yet enrolled. However, when enrollment opens in May, parents need to enroll their student in their school of residence before the district office will consider the transfer.

If you have a District-issued Chromebook that you no longer need or doesn't work, please return it including the charging cord. Be sure to put a note with your child's names attached to the computer and the reason for return. For example, Johnny Doe, sound issues or works fine. You can return it to the library which is located at the front of the school from 7:45-2:15 Monday-Friday. Please knock on the doors for assistance. Email Mrs. Whitelock to let her know you have a computer to return at nwhitelock@powayusd.com. Thank you!
