The Life of Krill
In the ITZ
All About It...
Live in the middle tide zone: Temperatures are less extreme due to shorter direct exposure to the sun. Also, the salinity is a little higher.
Living in the middle tide zone can cause interrupted feeding. Krill can survive up until 200 days without eating. During this time they shrink.
Special body adaptions: Krill has adopted shrinkage as a mechanism to deal with climate change.
Wave action and tides normally do not affect krill because they all stay in large swarms.
Diet: Phytoplankton, copepods, zooplankton, algaeWhales, Penguins and seals eat Krill!
