Week of March 4th- 10th

Hello Riverside County!

What kind of atmosphere are you encouraging in your home? Do you encourage an atmosphere of learning in all circumstances? This week we want you to take a look around and find opportunities to educate your kids right where you are at. Go on a walk and talk about local bird varieties and plants native or not native to your area. Start a classic literature read aloud time and sit down for 20 minutes each day just to read. Download a trivia app and play trivia at the dinner table. The more you practice a lifestyle of presenting educational opportunities the more you will create an atmosphere of learning in your home that will lead to becoming lifelong self-educators.

In this week's newsletter, we have a 'Curriculum Spotlight' on Insight to Learning! Our 'Vendor Spotlight' features Creative Arts 4 Kids, an art vendor in the Hemet area!

Make sure to read about both in this edition.

Also, be sure to check out Inspiration Station.

It is filled with so many amazing field trips designed by our HSTs and Liaisons just for you! Scroll through every so often so that you can see all that is being offered throughout Southern California!

Look how we've grown since August!

Meet Brave Writer's Julie Bogart in Irvine & Long Beach

Inspire is launching a new series for our homeschooling community called Inspiring Talks.

It may not always be possible to attend homeschooling conferences in person.

Our solution? Inspire will bring amazing speakers to you with a mission to

lift you up, share ideas, and fill your bag of teaching tips and tricks.

Some speakers will enlighten you about trends in homeschooling while others are experts in subject areas and may offer workshops to engage you as you learn about novel ways to teach your children reading, writing, math, and more!

Our first in-person Inspiring Talks is with Julie Bogart. Julie is a former homeschool mom,

the creative genius behind Brave Writer, and international speaker.

Julie will be available for a book signing following the talk!

Books will be available for purchase on the day of the event for $12 per book. Enrichment staff will be on-site to process orders for those who would like to use

their Instructional Funds.

Children are welcome.

Please include them in your RSVP so we can track when we have reached the room’s capacity.

Great News for Readers!

Inspire is excited to announce that we now offer Accelerated Reader for students in TK-12th grade! The cost for this program is just $20 per student in instructional funds and can be requested through your HST. Please note this program does not include books.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps parents manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child selects a book rather than having one assigned to them and reads it at their own pace. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. They may also read articles of interest right on the screen. When finished, your child will take a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) In addition, when an LP meeting comes up, you can easily print up the list of books that your child read and share it with your HST.

If you are interested in signing up for Accelerated Reader, please let your HST know. They will be happy to assist you.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The State of California requires all public schools to administer the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) to students enrolled in 5th, 7th, and 9th grades. Inspire’s Physical Fitness Testing window is February 4, 2019, through March 21, 2019. We ask that parents bring their students to a test location and stay at the location during testing. Most students are finished in about an hour (test time may be a little more or less depending on the size of the location). For more information, head over here and for locations click here. Please reach out to your HST if you have any questions about your assigned testing location.
Field Trip Booking Tutorial

Inspiration Station Booking REMINDERS!

Did you know that you can log into your account on Inspiration Station to view ALL of your field trip bookings?? Checking my account is a regular part of my "Field Trip Booking Routine". I check this by selecting My Account from the drop-down in the upper right-hand corner of the Inspiration Station site. Here you will find all of the field trips you have booked. I advise everyone to always double check the field trip you had just booked by checking the amount and names of the tickets purchased. It's a great time to also input the trip date, time, and host contact information into your planner.

Happy Planning!

Utilizing Enrichment Certificates for Service Orders

Please make sure to submit your service orders 2-4 weeks prior to the start of services to allow for sufficient time for your orders to be processed. Once you have your enrichment certificate and give it to your service vendor, that is when you can begin your services.

Every Kid in a Park!

Did you know? There is a federal public lands youth initiative to get all 4th graders and their families to experience the places that are home to our country’s natural treasures, rich history, and vibrant culture.

To help engage and create our next generation of park visitors, supporters and advocates, Federal Land Management agencies, launched the Every Kid in a Park initiative. The immediate goal is to provide an opportunity for each and every 4th-grade student across the country to experience their federal public lands and waters in person throughout the school year.

Every year, beginning September 1, all kids in the fourth grade have access to their own Every Kid in a Park pass at www.everykidinapark.gov. This pass provides free access to national parks across the country.

The Every Kid in a Park pass is good for the 4th grade school year, until August 31, 2019. Information on obtaining the pass is available by visiting www.everykidinapark.gov.

This Week's Vendor Spotlight: Creative Arts 4 Kids

Here is an ART VENDOR in the Hemet area!

"All classes are based on and around the "Elements" and "Principles" of art. Lessons are adapted to age levels and skill/experience levels. They are presented in a fun and relaxed environment at my home art studio for children ages 5 to 18. We explore the history and styles of famous artists while learning new skills. We review what we have learned in prior lessons, then move on to new and slightly more advanced concepts/projects that include drawing, painting, hand-building with clay, weaving, collage assemblage, mixed media, paper mache and the art of other cultures. All materials are included in the fees."

Reach out to Mary with Creative Arts 4 Kids for your child's art education!

This Week's Curriculum Spotlight: Insight to Learning!

Science Kits That Make Science Fun!"

Created By Teachers. Tested By Students.

At Insight To Learning, our goal is simple: Get students to love science by creating fun and interactive science projects that capture the attention of even the youngest minds. At Insight To Learning, we believe every child is a scientist. Every child yearns to learn and explore the world in which we live, they just need the proper tools

Teaching Tip of the Week: Let the older kids teach the younger ones!

In my house, we have a wide age range. I try to use that to my advantage! In the last couple of years I have employed my older kiddos ages 10 and up to help homeschool my little ones. The olders have helped the non-readers learn how to navigate websites like Starfall. They have aided in teaching them the alphabet and letter sounds as well as sight words. When the big kids pull out board games they often will allow a little one to be one their team or will help them by reading anything they need in order to play. This has helped our homeschool journey dramatically! I am adding another element next month because I just bought a science kit from Insight To Learning! They are featured above. My plan is for my Jr. High son to teach the younger four below him from that kit. Age range is 5 to 11. He will be solely responsible for the endeavor from receiving the curriculum and reading through the materials to planning out when and how much of the lessons will be worked through. This teaches my teen planning, communication, and project execution skills as well as brings in some more science fun for the younger ones. It is a homeschool win in my book! I hope you look to implement this teaching tip into your homeschool routine! If you are looking for ways to do that, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Happy Learning and Teaching!

-Candice

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!

We want to hear from you!
