Patriotic Observance

Veterans’ Day will be celebrated this Thursday, 11/11. Veterans Day was originally Armistice Day and recognized the end of World War I and honored the soldiers that fought in that war. Today Veterans Day honors all soldiers who have served in the military.

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ended. At 5 a.m. that morning, Germany, bereft of manpower and supplies and faced with imminent invasion, signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiégne, France. The First World War left nine million soldiers dead and 21 million wounded. Source.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STUDENT SECTION OF THE WEEK: Arroyo Grande Blue Zoo

Instagram: @aghsbz

The Arroyo Grande Zoo rock the pink for Breast Cancer Awareness before rocking the stands for their football team.

You guys are the Northern California Student Section of the Week. What did it take to stand out as one of the best in NorCal?

Zoo: We have an awesome student leadership team that creates moments where all can participate!

What is the most memorable game you have ever attended as a member of the Zoo?

Zoo: The Pink Out game was super fun. We wore pink in honor of breast cancer awareness and students really got involved. Our second best was the Go Gold for Pediatric Cancer. Our student body raised more than $4000 for the cause!

Favorite chant?

Zoo: We have changed the focus of our cheers this year to honor those on the playing field. We are always positive and love to cheer E – E – E – Eagles!

Outside of you guys, is there one student section that you have seen or heard about where you think, “Man, that is a good student section?”

Zoo: We are always looking for new and fun ideas. We love to share what is going on and also bounce ideas off of other schools to see what others are doing. There is no section we model ourselves from, just awesome moments where all students can cheer for our teams.

This is not a one-person operation. We know alot of people took a part in this. Who would you like to thank for making the Zoo the best this week?

Zoo: We want to thank our Activities Directors, Shannon Hurtado and Nick Talley for helping us create these awesome moments for us. We are thankful our staff and community support our spirit for all our athletes!
