Conrad Owl News
April 2022
Hello Conrad Families,
Happy Spring! This time of year means baseball, track, and spring football for my family and me. We're constantly busy running to a practice or game/meet. I hope you all are enjoying the warmer weather, sunshine and time with family making memories.
Speaking of warmer weather, just a reminder that you must apply sunscreen to your child before they come to school. We will be going outside as often as we can during the day, exploring our surroundings and for recess. There has been updated guidance from the State that preschool students must have had sunscreen applied before coming to school. Thank you for your support with this sun safety for your child and helping us stay in compliance.
In the month of April, Conrad ELC is partnering with Fountain-Fort Carson High School for the Make a Wish Spirit Week(s). The high school will be hosting some fundraising and community events to go toward the Make a Wish foundation. One of the high school students will be the recipient of the Make a Wish grant. Myles McClarity is a Junior at FFCHS and is the sibling of an amazing para at Conrad ELC, Ms. Lauryn, in Mrs. Rangel's classroom. We hope you will join us in our dress up days and have your preschooler bring in pennies (spare change) to go toward the high school's fundraising- Preschoolers with Pennies. In addition, we also hope to see you at the different community events. See flyer below for more information.
Our next Family Engagement for April is a STEAM night! We will be hosting four different STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music) activities and a Dance at Conrad on Thursday, April 28th from 4:30-6:00 PM. All activities and the dance will be held outside, as weather permits, or will be moved indoors if needed. We hope to see all of our Conrad families for some dancing and fun!
I wanted to share some news with you all regarding next school year. I'm excited to announce that I will be moving back to Aragon Elementary as an Assistant Principal in the 2022-2023 school year. I taught at Aragon Elementary for 12 years before becoming an Administrator, and am thankful for the opportunity to return "home" as an Alligator. I have absolutely loved my time at Conrad with our preschoolers, families, staff, and being a part of building a strong foundation at this early stage of development. I hope to see you out in the community or even at Aragon next school year! Thank you for a wonderful three years of partnership and support!
Here's to an amazing April filled with lots of learning and laughter! We hope you will join us as we continue to connect with each other and build a strong community. At Conrad, we are BETTER TOGETHER!
Kindly,
Stephanie Lee
Conrad Administrator

Student Absence Reporting
Nurse's Notes
Conrad Families,
Vision and hearing screenings were completed throughout the year, and referral letters have been sent home. These screenings are not diagnostic, meaning that it is recommended to follow up with a vision specialist to get a diagnosis and glasses, if needed. If you received a letter and your student has been to the eye doctor, please let the nurse know by either calling the school, emailing the nurse, or bringing in paperwork to the front office.
COVID cases have decreased in Conrad and throughout El Paso county. COVID practices in the district have not changed. This means that we are continually monitoring for COVID cases and we ask that parents/guardians keep students’ home if they are experiencing COVID symptoms. Allergies, colds and flu have many of the same symptoms as COVID. If your student is having multiple symptoms- runny nose, congestion, cough, sore throat, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever- please keep them home. If symptoms last greater than 24-48 hours it is recommended to get a COVID test. If your student has a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, they may return 48 hours after symptoms resolve without the use of medication. If there is a positive COVID case in the household, notify the nurse for next steps. We are also continuing to offer free rapid testing at school for students, staff and families. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the nurse.
SHOULD I SEND MY CHILD TO SCHOOL...?
- Children who have temperatures of 100.0 (Fahrenheit) or above should not attend school. Children should remain home until their temperature has been normal (98.6 degrees), without any fever reducing medication for up to 48 hours.
- Children who have cold symptoms such as: a constant runny nose, with abnormal color (green, yellow, or white) or thick nasal discharge, constant coughing, or lung congestion should not be in school.
- Children who have been diagnosed with an infection and have been placed on medication should not return to school until they have taken the medication for up to 48 hours after the first dose.
- Children who have had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours should not attend school for up to 48 hours.
- Children who have an undiagnosed skin rash or open skin lesion should not be in school.
- Children who have red, inflamed eyes with a thick discharge and have a fever and/or behavioral changes should not be in school.
If any of the above signs and symptoms are present at school, the parent will be contacted to pick up the child. We do not want children to miss school, but keeping sick children home will improve everyone's attendance and health in the long run.
If any of the above signs and symptoms last longer than 48 hours, please contact your child's school nurse before they return to school.
If your child is hospitalized or treated for an infectious disease, please provide your child's school a written statement from the health care provider that your child is no longer contagious and is cleared to return to school.
Labeling Student Items
In addition to clothing items, please also remember to label other items your child may bring to school such as water bottles, folders, blankets, etc.
If your child is missing anything, you can call or visit the office to check if it has been placed in the lost and found.
Siblings in Classrooms
Parking Lot and Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures
In addition, students should not be dropped off or picked up at the back of the school. That area is a bus loading/unloading zone. For the safety of our children, please adhere to these procedures and communicate to baby-sitters, family members, emergency contacts, etc. who may not receive this notice.
