County Central November Hawk Talk
'Home of the Hawks'
Principal's Point
Dear Parents & Guardians,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a very spooky Halloween. We are coming up to the end of our first term, and teachers have been working diligently on their progress reports. Reports will be emailed to you on Friday, and will contain student marks as well as comments from teachers regarding achievement, progress, and learner attributes. We will be holding our Parent-Teacher Interviews on November 8th and 9th between 4:00-6:30pm, and meetings will be held over the phone. Information about the PTIs along with the link for booking appointments has been sent out to families, so please be sure to check your emails.
With the weather getting colder, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind families to ensure students are dressed appropriately when heading off to school. We want to ensure that students are dressed warmly and have proper footwear, whether they're walking to school, driving, or taking the bus. They need to be prepared in case there is a vehicle breakdown, a change in the weather over the course of the day, or any other circumstance that may cause them to be out in the cold for any period of time. Bus drivers may refuse to allow a student on the bus in cold weather if they are not dressed appropriately.
We have a busy few weeks ahead. On November 10th, we will be holding our virtual Remembrance Day ceremony. There is no school scheduled for November 11th as we recognize Remembrance Day, and there is no school on November 12th. We are starting our basketball seasons right away, with tryouts and practices starting this week. Once again, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the volunteer coaches and managers who are making our athletics programs possible. We are blessed with having an incredibly supportive group of parents and community members, and our students are very luck to have you!
Please remember to get in touch with the school if you would like to be added to the School Council Meeting mailing list. Our next meeting is December 1 at 5:30pm, and you are all welcome to attend. Also, thank you to the families who have been diligent in paying school fees for Semester 1 courses. We will be sending out reminders for fees again soon, and families are welcome to contact me if they need any assistance in paying fees or require a waiver.
Don't forget to turn your clocks back this weekend! Take care, stay warm, and stay safe :)

Learning Commons
Hello and welcome to the Learning Commons Corner!
I have been in my role for approximately one month now and excited for several events taking place!
In hopes to better communicate career & academic opportunities to our Grade 10, 11, and 12 students, I have created Google Classrooms for each grade.
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD HAS ACCEPTED MY INVITE to these classrooms as there is always lots of good information pertaining to Post Secondary information sessions and open houses, Scholarship information, Work Experience, Green Certificate, and Dual Credit Opportunities.
I have had the opportunity to meet with a few Grade 11 and 12 students, as well as present to the Grade 12 class, but encourage all to come see me. We can discuss career paths, review their academic reports and figure out a plan to move towards their goals using software such as Myblueprint.com.
Myblueprint is a huge resource for students! It will walk the student through a few surveys to help them discover what type of learner they are, career interests, building resumes, cover letters and current job openings. As well as providing post secondary information and options to compare institutes to one another.
We are busy building up our library and adding new material.
I would encourage all students to write down any books or authors on the 'wish list' board in the library. Also, all students are welcome to come see me and give me their suggestions in person!
My goal is to fill our library with sought after books to keep all grades reading! I will look at involving the Junior High and Senior High English teachers to conduct a survey and obtain popular reading material from their students.
November 9th from 1 pm to 3 pm ELAA (Education Liaison Association of Alberta) will be hosting a Post Secondary Event at our school.
We will have approximately 13 post secondary schools from across Alberta attending, including schools such as U of L, SAIT, Lethbridge College, MHC, Lakeland College and many more!
All Grade 10, 11, and 12 students will be attending during their own grade specific time slot.
Students will have the opportunity to speak to each school representative to gain a better knowledge of programs offered, academic requirements and any other information they are seeking.
We are excited and looking forward to this information session!
School Fundraiser- Little Caesars Pizza
Thanks to everyone for the support once again! We look forward to using the funds we made to provide an opportunity for all the students in the school to benefit from! The kits will be available for pick up on November 15th and we will provide more information closer to the date.
