Mr. Taylor's Sunday Reminders for the week of January 29th.
Good Evening Winston Churchill Families!
This is your principal, Mr. Taylor, with your announcements and reminders for the week of January 29th. I want to thank Mr. Bilock for all of his work to lead our school during his internship, I am excited to be back and look forward to reconnecting with everyone in the coming weeks. Students are reminded that many of them will have schedule changes and updates as we begin the 2nd Semester and 3rd Marking Period. Students should check their StudentVue for their most current schedule for Monday. This is a great time to stop and reflect with your student about goals and successes as we head into the second half of the year. Please reach out to your counselor or administrator if you need support or assistance in meeting your personal goals.
I want to thank all of our students, student leaders and athletes, along with the staff, parents and community leaders that have been leading our school in actively taking a stand against antisemitism and all forms of hate and racism in both our community and country. Your passion and care for others is inspiring. Recent news headlines and videos just show us that there is work that still needs to be done, and I know that working together we can create change and help shape the world into a better and more welcoming place. We will continue to hold Culture and Equity sessions and work with our student leaders to ensure that Churchill is a place where hate is condemned and eliminated. Parents there are links in the weekly email for support and ideas about having discussions with your student about the hateful acts and violent events that are all to frequent in the news.
Please also review the information shared by Montgomery County and MCPS about the illicit Fentanyl and substance abuse and overdose crisis with your student. It is important for all of our students and families to be aware of the ongoing crisis and how to avoid falling into patterns of abuse, and get help if they or a friend is struggling with substance abuse. Links to information can be found in our weekly email.
We have another full week of events and playoffs for our Bulldog athletic teams. We want to send a special congratulations to the athletes of our Bulldog Indoor Track team who set so many records and performed so well at the County Championship, our Poms who won again on the way to their County Championships this Saturday, and our Division winning Churchill Bocce Team. Great Work Everyone!
On Wednesday we will be reviewing our school safety guidelines and practicing our procedures for shelter in place and lockdowns during PRIDE time. This is important information and vital safety lessons for all of our students and staff, please discuss this with them and let us know about any questions and other ways we can help support the safety of our school and community.
Also in the email section of the weekly communication: you can check out the latest on athletics schedules, spring tryouts and playoff updates from the Winston Churchill Athletics program, some important updates and reminders about attendance procedures, SSL opportunities, and much more. All of our communications, daily announcements, and the most up to links and information will also be shared on our Churchill School Canvas tile, available to parents and students. All of our Churchill Bulldogs are reminded that they have the power to create change and make it a great day. Please have wonderful evening.

Exciting news from the media center corner!
Parents and Students: Each year, the Media Center holds a fun event to encourage reading and possibly even trying a genre or subject a little different from the student's usual choice. The event is called Blind Date With A book.
The catch is the student has to take a small leap of faith – the books are wrapped so they won’t know the title. A Dating Profile with some clues as to the book’s contents are posted on the front of the wrapping to help them select one that sounds appealing, just like a blind date bio.
But as always at the library, the book is free, so they have literally nothing to lose. If a student samples the book and decide it's not a love match, they simply return it! Maybe they’ll be open to trying multiple blind dates in their pursuit of "love"?

Student Parking
Student parking is limited to seniors that have been approved for and picked up a parking permit. School permitted areas, which require the parking permit, include both the school lots and the surrounding streets. Parents and teens will each complete a 30-40 minute survey and can also take part in interviews if they're interested. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at ProjectARISE1@gmail.com. Parents and teens will be paid for their time and participation! Families can sign up using this form: https://umbc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3JVQoj9aNjuQa3k
COVID SAFETY REMINDERS and 22-23 UPDATES FOR OUR COMMUNITY:
- If you do test positive, please continue to report your status by using the MCPS COVID REPORTING FORM
Do not come to school if sick. With COVID cases and variants still occurring, it is important to not report to school if your student has any signs of illness. In addition to the standard COVID symptoms (cough, fever, loss of taste and smell), signs of illness include: sore or scratchy throat, running nose, headache, chills and body aches. If your child has any of these symptoms, please keep them home until it can be confirmed they do not have COVID-19.
Wear an enhanced mask/face covering. All students and staff will be allowed to choose whether to wear a mask while in school. If you have concerns about exposure or immune levels, we recommend to wear a mask. In some cases, students returning from quarantine will be required to wear masks for certain periods. Masks will continue to be available on-site for those that need them.
Practice good hand and health hygiene. Wash hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitizer when soap and water is unavailable. Do not cough or sneeze around others or into your hands. Dispose of any tissue or items used for cough, sneezing or nasal use.
Vaccinate, and also get a Booster if you can. DHHS has now approved boosters for age 5 and up. You can find out more at the DHHS Vaccination Website: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/covid19/vaccine/
