William Forlander: Deep Sea Fishing
The thrill, of fighting the big one or catching small one for a healthy dinner, is what many people go out to the deep sea for. Florida has some of the best deep sea fishing locations in the world. With some of the deepest spots for fishing, the fish available are vast and numerous. The waters of Florida host a plethora of the big game fish that many anglers hope to reel in. Wahoo, tuna, snapper, swordfish, sailfish, marlin, kingfish, grouper, mahi mahi, cobia, amberjack, barracuda and even sharks can be caught off the shore of Florida.
Florida even has fishing charters that take groups out for the day to fish. If an angler is alone and looking to go out to be with a group of people who can help with the deep sea adventure, professionals, experienced with deep sea fishing, are available and just a call away. Some of the charters provide art rods, reels, tackle, bait, ice and the fishing license.
William Forlander: Drainage Canals
William Forlander is a guru when it comes to the fishing lands of his peninsula state, Florida. Southwest Florida does not seem like the go-to place for angels to find their fresh water fishing sport, but the land has many lakes fully stocked with bass, catfish and panfish. Unfortunately, the region only has a few lakes that are natural. Of these natural lakes, there is truly only one that is open to the public, but it on the farming land of the Immokalee.
It may seem like there is no place to find the sweet sport for anglers looking for some freshwater fishing. They key, William Forlander says, is drainage canals. The drainage canals of Southwest Florida are hundreds of miles long and contain tons of fish throughout. The three major canal system are Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, and Gold Gate. All of these canals have boat ramps set up, bridges of which people are allowed to fish from and plenty banks where anglers can fish from.
While driving around, you can notice quite a few people will stop alongside a major road to fish in the canals. This is completely allowed and encouraged if safe parking places of the road are available. It is important not to skip by places like these, often they are the perfect gem, providing a paradise for anglers looking for a quick catch. With bass, catfish and panfish waiting to be caught, it’s no wonder why people stop every day by the canals.
William Forlander - USS Oriskany
William Forlander loves to go out on a warm summer’s day and scuba dive. The water as always been an endless frontier for Forlander to explore ever since he was a child. Having lived in Florida his whole life, Forlander has been able to go scuba diving over and again. Never getting bored of it, William Forlander goes whenever he can to see the wonderful wildlife in the sea.
The USS Oriskany is one of the best places to dive for divers of every level. This 1950 aircraft carrier was sunk into the great ocean about 20 miles off the coast of Pensacola. Done with the purpose of becoming an artificial reef for wildlife, the USS Oriskany is the largest ship in the world to be ever sunk for this purpose.
The vessel rests 212 feet below on the depths on the ocean floor. But what makes it an adventure for the amateur and the experienced alike, is that the ship can be reached at 70 feet. Amateurs can easily reach the ships command tower, also known as the island, at 70 feet below. As amateurs increase their skill over time, or experienced diver who are ready, the flight deck is at 130 feet and well within reach of recreational divers with the deep diving experience.
William Forlander - Manatee Diving in Crystal River
Manatee diving is a challenging but beautiful experience. Divers have an advantage that those kayaking or snorkeling are not able to do. The advantages of diving gear allow one to go deeper into the ocean waters and spend several hours underwater observing local manatee population.
William Forlander has lived in Florida all of his life and devoted many hours to fishing swimming and scuba diving. He believes that many residents take the underwater sealife that Florida is known for granted. He believes there is nothing more pristine than seeing the fast and vast amounts of fish and plant life there just meters below the ocean view. While it may seem that regular diving can become mundane, diving in the same spot still allows you to see something new and have a unique experience from the previous diving experience.
Crystal River Manatee Diving is one of William Forlander’s top choices in recreation. The Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge offers a different diving experience that not every diving park offers, a chance to swim with the manatees. He also enjoys that Crystal River NationalWildlifeRefuge leans towards preservation and protection of the West Indian manatee and its habit.
The Crystal River NationalWildlifeRefuge is made up of several islands, totaling an approximate 46 acres. This refuge is surrounded by the crystal clear;springfed waters of Kings Bay. Typically a menacing about 10 feet long and weighs around 1000 pounds, give or take 200 pounds. Though impressive in size, the manatee is quite docile and safe to swim along without any danger. And if one goes during the peak season from late October to early April, you can see a plethora of manatee that are migrating together.
William Forlander - Diving In Florida’s PristineCave and Cavern Seascape
In addition to other scuba diving initiatives along the coast, including Manatee diving, the northern portion of Florida provides one of the largest and most active cave diving regions in the United States. The two best places a diver should not miss the opportunity to dive into are Ginnie Springs and Peacock Springs. Those are two of the most visited freshwater dive spots in Florida and the world. Leon Sinks is a cave system located near Tallahassee that is also a must see. The underwater cave system is so large it is absurd. The Leon Sinks is considered to be the one of the most extensive in the world. Also, the North Florida Aquifer is known for itsstrong currents and crystal clear waters. There is an opening to a labyrinthine cave system from the many springs in the surrounding area that hosts some of the most beautiful sea life on the planet.
