Leet Center Birthday Celebrations!
Our Family's Tradition
You may be wondering how we celebrate your child on their birthday...
A few years ago the teachers and I were challenged with the idea of celebrating the birthday of our children, in a new way. The centers we had visited that work under the same beliefs we have about children, were encouraging healthy, equitable options to the typical cupcake filled experience. It took us a while to embrace the idea, but as we've implemented this new ritual of celebration we have fallen in love with the experience and wanted to share it with you.
Birthday Club Meetings With Mrs. Rouner
Each month I sit with the children who will have a birthday in the following month. We talk about how special each one of them are and about their coming day where we will celebrate them. During our Birthday Club your child will get to pick from a variety of snacks to make here in the center, with their friends on their birthday. They will also choose what special thing they would like to do on their birthday. Some of my favorites have been paint a pink picture, Have a dance party and mix colors outside.
Sylvia prepares her crown
After celebrating with Yogurt Parfaits Sylvia chose to mix colors outside!
Aurora sits in the Celebration Chair
Children in Mrs. Sheil's class get to decorate the celebration chair with ribbons to get it ready for the day. The birthday child will get to be in the celebration chair whenever they sit on their special day.
About ME
Traditions and Rituals are different in each room but all teachers find their own way to celebrate who your child is on their birthday and everyday.
Birthday Snacks
Our Nutrition and Dietetics students have prepared a cook book for us to review in our birthday club meetings. With the help of pictures and a description we pick a snack that's just right for each child on their birthday. We do this so that a semi healthy option can be cooked in the room together for a great experience. In this way, all families have the option to stay a bit longer during drop off to cook with your child. Children also get the opportunity to measure, stir and experience the thrill of making their own treat.
How can you be involved?
Join the Birthday Club
If you'd like to help me host a birthday club you could come to be apart of this meeting monthly. You could also join in the classroom cooking experiences on your child's birthday or any other child's birthday!
I would also like to redesign the birthday board and have an idea- just need someone to help with getting it hung on the wall. This task could be done after work hours if you are unable to slip away in the day.
