Ocean & Climate
By Laurel P
The ocean absorbs most of the Sun's energy
The ocean covers over 70% of the earth's surface, and it is darker than the land, therefore it absorbs much more energy. It stores most of it in the form of heat.
Currents can be caused by many things
Wind is the most common source of water movement, but Earth's rotation and other things in the ocean can also cause currents.
Deep currents are caused by density
The temperature and salt content of sea water change the density and that makes the water move above denser waters and below less dense waters.
Questions
-How does the ocean store heat without changing the temperature very much?
-How do greenhouse gasses affect the ocean?
Our daily lives...
It tells us how the climate and ocean are related, and how the ocean moves.
