Making a difference, one person at a time
Educational Equality on MLK Jr. Day
But then I thought about it.
In the early years of my teaching career I prided myself in treating everyone the same. My personal mantra was all about consistency and equality.
This is where I had it wrong. I was so completely wrapped up in treating all of my students the same that I failed to see them as individuals.
I recently listened to a #MyBad episode and during the show I heard this quote referred to. It had me stop in my tracks.
"The core of equity: understand who your kids are and how to meet their needs. You are still focused on outcomes, but the path to get their may not be the same for each one."
- Pedro Noguero
I encourage you to listen to the full podcast here.
I hope you will reflect on ways to help EACH child succeed, even if the path is vastly different from the norm.
