JBD FRIDAY FOCUS
John B. Dey Weekly Family Newsletter - June 8, 2018
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is always a bittersweet ending to every school year, as we bid farewell to so many students, yet feel a warm sense of pride in their accomplishments and growth. We cannot thank you all enough for your support during this year. The parent/school partnership is the true key to student success. Another huge thank you goes to our amazing PTA. With the efforts of President, Melissa McCormack, the board, and PTA membership, we were able to purchase computers and wonderful instructional materials for the school. We had a great time at all of the PTA events and realize these kinds of things don't just 'happen'. They take time, energy, and lots of organization. We look forward to next year, and thank Susan Wilson for taking on the position of President of the PTA.
Our building is moving right along. Please look for your students class information and a letter from me in the mail in mid-August. In that letter, we will explain the details for our Meet and Greet and Open Houses in the fall. Next year, we will be receiving more devices and with that responsibility comes the need to communicate clearly with all of you as to the expectations. Meet and Greet, will truly be a "SNEAK PEAK" to find your class and meet the teacher. The OPEN HOUSES will be in the evenings the second week of September (See the schedule below). This is a more traditional format, but it is necessary, because we have may untraditional changes taking place next year!
As for summer, HAVE FUN! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN READ-READ-READ! Also, practicing math skills is always a smart way to keep the summer slide away. Check out Kahn Academy and all of the resources we have on our websites are still available. Real live math experiences like counting money, telling time, measurement, and problem solving can happen anywhere. Encourage your students to question and feed their curiousity. Limit the video games in a big way along with monitoring their interactions on social media.
May you all enjoy your vacation and find that peace that comes with family time. Please call or email if you have any questions or concerns regarding this year or next year.
All the best,
Beth Bianchi
Principal
5TH GRADE
It's been an amazing year and it's time to celebrate all of the accomplishments we've had in 2017 - 2018. Best wishes to our graduating 5th Graders! We are very proud of your accomplishments and wish you the best in middle school!
On June 14 at 6:00 p.m. we will be holding the 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony (Graduation) in the JBD Gymnasium. The doors will open promptly at 5:30 p.m.
Please have the students proceed to their classrooms to line up for the processional to the Gym. Parents please report directly to the Gymnasium.
Parking will be extremely limited due to construction of the building. There will be a few spots at John B. Dey and once those fill up we ask that you park at Great Neck Middle School.
After graduation, please join us in the Cafeteria for a reception and final farewell to your friends and teachers.
Congratulations to Danielle Winner!
She won 3rd Place in the Pungo Strawberry Festival Art Show!
