Emily Parker
Emily accepted the position as the full time associate band director at Discovery Middle School this summer and we are so fortunate to have the opportunity to have her at the helm of Discovery Bands. She will be working with all of our DMS band students every block and also heading up our Concert Band, Cadet Brass and Jazz Band classes!
Emily Parker is a proud native of Huntsville where she graduated from Grissom High School. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Music and a Masters of Music Education from Samford University. Emily has previously served as band director at Buckhorn Middle and Hampton Cove Middle School. Emily performs in several area ensembles such as the Brass Band of Huntsville, Redstone Brass and the First Baptist Church Orchestra. Emily is a low brass specialist and plays the euphonium as her primary instrument. She also currently serves as District Chairman for the Alabama Bandmasters Association.

If your student does not have an instrument yet, our first day with all instruments as a class will be August 19th.
If you have NOT contacted Mrs. Merritt or Ms. Parker at info@dmsbands.org with your instrument selection, you must do so ASAP. You should have received at least 3 emails with details.
See you soon!!
Concert Band/Symphonic Band
Make sure you ONLY print your instrument! Don't print all pages!
Parents should come to the band parent meeting (see above) and get details about fees, practices, volunteer opportunities, etc.
All students in these classes will owe a polo fee in addition to the class fees and book fees. We will review this at the band parent meeting as well as on the first day of school in the handbook. This fee is $22. This polo is required for pep band performances.
Students CAN use polos from last year (the one with white on the sleeves).
No instruments the first day. Don't bring until told to do so - we need to give out lockers first. Students should NOT carry instruments around all day in classes.
See you soon!
FALL GUARD TRYOUTS

Flags will be provided for tryouts, but students are allowed to bring their own flags if they have them.
No experience required, we will teach the basics on Wednesday and Thursday clinics. Friday will act as our official tryout day.
