Mustang Message
J.J. Pearce High School
Sept. 18
We have had a great couple of weeks at Pearce and a lot going on. Our library is up and running and looks fantastic. It has been an amazing transformation. We have added two classroom areas for our teachers to utilize and have 3 collaborations rooms that our students can reserve when working on group projects. It is incredible, so if you get a chance, I encourage you to swing by and check it out. The cafe/store is set to be built over the holiday breaks and should be up and running by second semester.
I want to send a quick thank you to everyone who donated and helped us raise money for our marquee. We have raised close to $35,000 over the last year. We are still short about $6000, but we have put a down payment down and will hopefully have it up over the next couple of months. If you would like to donate, please click on the link below.
Early Release: Wednesday September 19
Early release days were added to RISD’s student academic calendar this year for the first time. Students will be released two hours early on Sept. 19, October 24, January 30 and April 3. After-school programs, bus schedules and other portions of the daily schedule will be adjusted by two hours on those days.
Students will be released at 2:10.
The days were added as a direct result of requests from RISD teachers through surveys and interviews, and will provide teachers with more dedicated time for instructional planning with their collaborative teams - known in RISD as Professional Learning Communities (or PLCs). Teachers will be able to use the time to work with colleagues in either their grade level or subject area to plan lessons, discuss individual student performance, share ideas and best practices, and adjust teaching approaches with individual students as needed.

Dance- Parent Talk
I want to be vigilant about reminding parents to please talk to your child about drinking. For some, these types of events create temptations for drinking or possibly even doing drugs. Please remind your child not only about the dangers but also the consequences that might occur if they choose to do either. Please let your children know that we will be checking. We will have police presence at the door and in the parking lot. We will also check any busses that are brought as well as bags and purses. If a student is found to be under the influence or in possession of drugs or alcohol, they will be removed from our campus to our alternative school for a minimum of 40 days. Please know our intent is to provide a safe environment for all students to enjoy. The last thing we want is for any of our students to be hurt or possibly worse, and we certainly don’t want to have to remove a student from our campus. Please help us in our efforts to get the word out so that we can prevent anyone from making a poor choice. Thank you so much for your help; we look forward to a great game and a wonderful dance. GO Mustangs!

Pearce PTA
Our PTA is the best I have ever had at my school. They not only spend countless hours at our campus helping with everything, they also provide much need resources to support our teachers. Last year, they replaced all of the furniture in our teachers’ lounge, provided our teachers lunch throughout the year, and made sure our teachers were appreciated all year long. I encourage you to join our PTA and give them your support.
PEEF Pearce Excellence in Education Foundation
If you are looking for a way to help Pearce, please considering donating to PEEF. Each year they help us provide much-needed resources to our teachers. Last year, they were instrumental in providing resources to allow us to prepare for 1:1 technology. They paid for subs so that we could send 25 teachers to other campus who have successfully implemented 1:1 technology. This was incredibly valuable for our teachers and we are way ahead of the curve in being prepared for our students to utilize their Chromebooks. This year, they provided the resources needed to have 13 of our teachers trained in AVID strategies. In addition to helping our teachers, they also host several parent meeting throughout the year focusing on helping our parents prepare for their students going to college.
Focus
During our advisory time, we will have students check their own grades and attendance weekly.
College Bound
Career and College Readiness
Our goal at Pearce is to help our students prepare for life after high school. Getting into college is a very complicated process, and we are here to help. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kathy Noland at Kathy.Noland@risd.org or 469-593-5181.
Communication
One of the most important items on the list for me is to communicate well with my parents and students. I plan to send out a bi-monthly newsletter through Blackboard connect, Facebook, Twitter, and add to our web site.
