OTSEGO LOCAL SCHOOLS
Superintendent's Weekly Update - September 7, 2018
The safety and welfare of our students and staff is our highest priority at the Otsego Local Schools. We practice safety drills throughout the year to help our students know what to do in an emergency. In the next couple of weeks, we will be having a safety drill and evacuating to our off-site locations. Each location is within walking distance.
We will also have age-appropriate conversations with our students before and after the drill and will continue to have these throughout the year. The conversations will be centered on a violent intruder. Teachers, building staff and students will have the option to evacuate, barricade (the Boot), or use evasive distractions to get away from an armed intruder. (Run-Hide-Fight)
Otsego is required to have six emergency evacuation drills, three tornado drills, three school safety drills where students must be secured in the school building or rapidly evacuated in response to an immediate threat, and one theoretical school safety drill to provide faculty and staff with instruction in the procedures to follow in such situations.
The school district is working closely with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office to correctly implement these procedures. The goals of the training drills are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, reduce injuries, and communicate clear expectations for students and staff. These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve our response skills.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call or email.

I want wanted to remind everyone that the Elementary Building will once again be open at night for walkers.

There will not be indoor walking hours when school is canceled or it is a holiday. There will also be a course map that will tell you the distance traveled, along with a sign-in sheet as
you enter the elementary building.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT - September 14th
Knight In Shining Armor Nominations
Please use the following form to inform OHS Student Council about a family in need within the school district. While the family does not need to have students in the district, we do ask that they are a member of the Otsego Community. Use this form to share information about their current situation as well as how they can best be assisted.
Please be sure to understand that while Knight in Shining Armor (KISA) would love to help all community members in need, we are still a new program, and may not have the funds to do so. With that being said, we will consider each request on a case by case basis. Filling this form out does not guarantee that we will be able to assist the family, but we will try our hardest to do so!
Here are some things that we have done with KISA funds:
- School supplies were purchased for multiple families.
- Gas money has been provided to get to and from medical treatment.
- Food cards have been provided to help families afford meals while going through medical treatment.
- Cash donations have been made to families to help assist in paying bills during medical treatment.
- Gift cards and supplies have been provided to help make ends meet after housing emergencies have occurred.
We now have TWO ways that you can nominate a family in need. Bookmark the link below to use as the need arises. You can also find this link on the Otsegoknights.org webpage under the "District" tab.
Please do not hesitate to nominate a family in need, and KISA will do their best to help out!
