Letter from the Director
Greetings FC Band Family,
The new school year is a week away & we are so excited to return to making music together! Thank you for your support & for encouraging your student to continue their study of music. This investment of time, effort & energy will produce lifelong dividends.
Throughout the year, we will be sending out communications from our Performing Arts Department concerning upcoming concerts, rehearsals, fundraising efforts, ensemble news, & all other things related to our band program. All of this information will be shared in class with the students, but we want to make sure that all of our parents & guardians receive this information as well.
With many of our covid restrictions lifted, we are excited to have numerous events & performances this year, with several happening within the first few months of our return. Plead make every effort to read our newsletter, the course expectations that will be sent home day 1 of class, & our band handbook. Our program has much to offer our students & I do not want any student to miss out on an opportunity or performance.
It is a privilege to have each student as a valued musician in our band program. Thank you for your continued support of music education at First Colonial----you play an important role in everything we do. Welcome to the new school year!

If you are a parent/grandparent/guardian/caregiver, you are invited to be a member of the First Colonial Band Boosters. Meetings are held monthly where we discuss program direction, fundraisers, student events, & much more. All are encouraged to participate & help make our program the best that it can be.

Fall Performing Arts Concert
Students Call Time: 6pm
Concert Start Time: 7pm
Concert Attire: Black Tuxedos / Black Concert Dresses
More information regarding the concert attire will be sent home during the first week of classes.
The proceeds from this fundraiser will fund:
- music for ensembles
- equipment for ensembles
- guest clinicians for the band classes
- spare concert apparel
We need every member to contribute to the highest extent possible so we can meet our budget & continue to offer the highest quality music education experience to all in our program. The fundraiser orders & all funds are due by Friday, October 1st.
Marching Band Update
We have finished learning the drill for the first movement of our show, Kitty Hawk, & have started to learn the music for the second movement. Progress is still moving at a steady pace, but we do need to increase the urgency at which we learn so we can finish the show by our first competition.
We have registered for several competitions so far & are waiting for the field trips to be approved. Currently, this is our tentative schedule:
- October 9th @ Grassfield HS
- October 16th @ Monarch Invitational (Todd Stadium)
- October 23rd TBA
- October 28th @ Warhill HS
- October 30th @ Tallwood HS
A reminder that our September Camp will be on Saturday, September 18th from 8am-6pm.
