Downloading Apps

Please be sure to download the QR Code Reader app that I mentioned in the last newsletter. Our goal is to use this app next week. We will also use an app called Seesaw. A picture of the app is included in this section of the newsletter.

Take a look at this edtech teaching resource on Common Sense Education.

Common Sense Education is a site by teachers, for teachers that helps you find the best educational technology resources and learn the best practices for implementing them in your classroom. Common Sense Education is brought to you by Common Sense Media, the nation’s leading independent non-profit organization dedicated to empowering kids to thrive in a world of media and technology.

Please let me know if you have any questions about downloading these apps. Remember, this only applies to you if your child brings their ipad home.

Book It Reading Program

In October, we will start the Book It reading program. Look for the first letter and tracking calendar to come home on October 3rd. If your child reads for 20 minutes at least 5 days a week, they will earn a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. This program will run from October to March. Happy reading!

Recap of the Week

Reading- This week we compared main characters from familiar Kevin Henkes books. We practiced how to describe characters using adjectives. We worked on identifying compound words in the books we read and we also practiced retelling a story using the summary key words: somebody, wanted, but, so, then.

Writing- We continued to work on our Ouch story rough drafts. We focused on adding more detail and some of us even started on our final copy. We will continue to work on editing our work by checking for conventions.

Math- We practiced determining even and odd numbers and counting by 2s up to 100. We are also still working on writing numbers to 1,000 in word form and standard form. Expanded form comes next.

Social Sciences- We finished our timelines and shared them with the class. Now we will move on to Science standards. Our focus will be patterns in our world such as the phases of the moon.
