Phoenix Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2020/2021 GCISD Collegiate Academy School Year! For our returning students and families, you will notice I changed the background to remind us of our social distancing! I saw a meme the other day that stated; To leave the house in 2019 we needed our keys, phone, wallet. To leave the house in 2020 we need our keys, phone, wallet, mask, gloves, hand sanitizer, hornet repellent, stress balls, etc....I know this has been a stressful time for all. I am confident that we will get through this and our students will learn, achieve, and be ready to face adversity in life because of this experience.
Last week you received the district's draft proposal for the 2020/2021 school year and I'm sure have been left wondering, what does that mean for students at CA? Here's what I know:
1. Tarrant County College NE classes will be online this fall. The TCC NE professor will have the ability to decide if the class is synchronous (at the scheduled time) or asynchronous (flexible with the professor using videos and online instruction to complete the course). CA does not have any control over how the professor decides to deliver instruction. Your Pathways teacher will be available in person or remotely to help students navigate college classes.
2. Students that are juniors or seniors with all college classes except Pathways should choose virtual instruction. We will have limited ability to monitor social distancing and to supervise students not in a face to face high school class. The TCC NE campus will not be open, except for our building, and students will not be able to move around the campus.
3. Freshmen and Sophomores should choose the model of instruction that best fits their needs. I believe freshmen and sophomores will benefit from face to face for the academic and social/emotional support they need, but a student's health is most important, so that is the decision your family will need to make. TCC will provide a brief cleaning after each class period and a deep cleaning every evening. We will practice social distancing in the classroom and during lunch.
4. Students that choose face to face will be provided space to work on college courses during their college class period.
5. GCISD transportation will be provided as usual with a morning drop-off and an afternoon - pick up.
6. GCISD Nutrition services will provide breakfast and lunch on campus. Students that choose remote will be notified before the school year starts how to pick-up their breakfast and lunch, if needed.
7. We are working to find a solution for families, that currently have multiple students at CA or students at other GCISD schools, on how to choose remote or face to face when students have only college courses online and siblings prefer face to face. We will share that information as soon as we have it.
If I have not answered a question you have or if you need more information about a question, please ask it on this form and I will answer it in the Phoenix News on July 26. Of course, don't hesitate to ask me directly if you need an immediate answer.
2020/2021 CA School Year Question
I want to assure you that we (the CA staff) have been working all summer and will continue to work to make sure we deliver engaging, rigorous lessons that will prepare students to earn not only a high school diploma, but a college degree. We will be here for your students to not only support them through their high school classes, but their college classes as well! Communication will be the key to our students success. If your student is struggling, unsure or anxious about anything, the staff at CA is here to serve. Together we can make this year the BEST! The Phoenix Way is to face adversity, make a plan for success and achieve greatness! I know if we partner together, this year will not be any different!
