BHS Updates

As we move toward the end of our first semester of the 2021-22 school year on January 28th, please remain focused on academic success and please let us know if any members of our staff can support you in any way.

Over the course of the week, teachers will be reviewing with each of their classes how students would continue to participate in the unlikely event of the need for short-term virtual learning. As Mr. Bruno communicated, "we must be prepared for the possibility no matter how unlikely." If we are required to move to remote learning, students would be expected to attend each class every day following their school schedules. Each class will begin with a live check-in and instruction from the teacher and will be as closely aligned to in-person instruction as possible.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in the education of our students and please contact us at any time if you have questions or for support.

    Young Women of Distinction Award

Brought to Rochester in 2000 by the Women's Council, the Young Women of Distinction Award is presented to high school senior women who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to community service while letting their creativity shine through their individual submissions. The award embodies the Women’s Council’s belief that young women with promise today will become tomorrow’s leaders.

Each of the recipients receives a $2,500 scholarship along with recognition in local and social media.

The remaining finalists, all from schools in Monroe or surrounding counties, are each granted $500 scholarships.

Children and adolescents who are taught the dangers of substance use are less likely to develop an addiction later on in life.

Being aware of the latest trends, language, social media and more can help keep your children safe from the dangers of alcohol and drugs. Knowing what young people want and need can open doors to a productive conversation.

In December, the US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration published an “emoji drug code” guide that DEA “decodes” various emojis and small digital icons frequently used in online and phone messaging.” We are sharing this with you to support you and your family. Within this newsletter you will find resources, common emoji codes used for drugs and other substance related information and ways to start a healthy and productive conversation with your child about drug and alcohol use.

To support you and your student, we have created the flyer linked here, which includes resources for parents and students.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to BHS Principal, Mike Pincelli or BHS Prevention Counselor, Nicca Lattuca.
