Dear La Mariposa Families,
Everything is moving at lightning speed here at La Mariposa and we are excited to share some of the exciting activities and accomplishments for the month of April.
Standing Ovations: We are proud of our Standing Ovation Recipients; Hope Richards, Angela Myrick, Amanda Boniface and John Ortiz
Book Fair: We started the month of April with a book fair that raised money for new and replacement books in our library and in our teachers’ classrooms. We are very grateful for the work our PTA does to support reading at La Mariposa.
Purple Up Military Day: We were grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our military children this month. We had a “Purple Up” day in support of our military families.
Speech Finalists: We are proud of our students that entered our speech contest this month. Congratulations to our finalists Sidhesh Nonodkar (Storytelling), Sophia Vazquez (Long Poetry), Gabriela Govina (LMS) and Shaylee Lynch (LMS).
LMS Talent Show: We had a talent show on May 2nd and our kids were fantastic. This was a great show and everyone had a fun evening. Even the teachers got in on the act!
Kindergarten Earth Day Extravaganza: Our kindergarten classes had an Earth Day celebration on Monday, April 22nd.The kids wore special shirts they painted, made birdhouses with recycled materials, decorating a recycled container, made sun visors, painted rocks and planted flowers. They also got a visit from Farmer Nakama.
First-grade Star Assembly: Our first-grade students enjoyed the planetarium in-house field trip experience.
Second-grade Volcano Eruptions: Second-grade students had a very exciting day watching their volcanoes explode.
Second-grade Play: Our second-grade students gave an awesome performance of “Grammar Rocks”. We were all very impressed with their dancing, singing, and acting.
Third-grade Learning:
Our third-grade students are working hard learning to calculate the perimeter of rectangles.
Fourth-grade Diner: Our fourth-grade students simulated a 50’s diner in the theme room. This was so much fun!
Fifth-grade Experiments: Our fifth-graders did exciting Mystery Science experiments in the
Makerspace. They learned about various acids and acid reactions.
Fifth-grade Mr.Kline visit: Our fifth graders had a visit from the Las Colinas counselor, Mr. Kline and Las Colinas students. They received great information about 6th grade at Las Colinas and they had the opportunity to ask questions.
Upcoming Events:
CAASPP:-Our third through fifth-grade students are working hard on the CAASPP testing, which began this week.
Fourth-Grade Play: Our fourth-grade plays will be on May 16th and 17th. This is sure to be a great production. Our students have been working so hard.
Tiger Olympics: This is always a fun event at La Mariposa and our kids are already practicing.
Fifth-Grade Promotion Day: Our fifth graders are excited about Promotion Day, which is always a fun day. This comes with mixed feelings for all of us because we will miss them, but we are looking forward to their big day.
Staff Appreciation Day:- It's Staff Appreciation Week and we are all enjoying the PTA and parent gifts. We truly appreciate your kindness and support.
