2018-2019 Retreat

August 6, 2018, 8am-4pm

Joseph Nelson Community Center

(eligible for buyback)

I will share more information as our final details emerge. The work at this retreat will be well worth your time and will represent the start to the work we do across the 2018-2019 school year.

1:1 Device Roll Out--Grade Level Collab

Many of you expressed concern about the 1:1 roll-out plan that was emailed a few weeks ago. During your grade level collab this week, please spend a bit of time discussing any specific concerns or recommendations you have related to the roll out of 1:1 devices. Please share your ideas with me in a google doc or email.

Typically, most schools (K-12) have checked the devices out of the library like books. I am open to hearing any ideas you have to make this efficient, safe, and mindful of everyone's time.

Library Meeting

I have been working with Amanda Rish in purchasing to work on purchase of new tables and chairs for the library. I also have been working with Sandi to get a bid on capital outlay for some additional work. I will host a library -redesign meeting on Wednesday, May 9th at 2:30 in the library. All are welcome.

Blue and Pink Cards

Pink and Blue cards should have been distributed to your boxes. As grade levels prepare to create classes for next year, please note the following distribution for next year:

TK: two classes K: four classes

1: five classes 2: four classes 3: four classes

4: three classes 5: three classes

Please let me know if you have any questions or needs.

CAASPP Testing Continues!

State testing continues this week. Third 5th grade is beginning testing this morning. Please remember to minimize noise in the academic/quad areas so students can focus. Two carts will be in use in the B wing (one upstairs and one downstairs).

Let's get after it! Let me know if you need anything.

Shout Out to Mrs. Gill and Mr. Suarez for sitting in as Teachers in Charge this last week. I appreciate knowing that both of you can hold it down just fine while I am out hanging with Dash. And thank you to the whole staff for being patient and flexible. I didn't expect to be out this long.

Reminder: 2018-2019 Move Updates

The move list is here. Please know that this is subject to change or additional moves. Boxes have been ordered and should arrive anytime. .

1. We will do our best to accommodate your desired room configurations.

2. We will move any filled file cabinets so you don't have to empty those.

3. The printer will stay and will make sure your new room has a printer.

4. We are looking at getting an additional dumpster for the last 2-3 weeks of school. This is a great opportunity to dump some of the "stuff" you no longer need.

Please let me know if you need to talk or process any part of the move.

Bike to School Day--MAY 9th

Please encourage your students to BIKE to school on May 9th! Remind them to wear a helmet. Incentives available while supplies last (tickets handed out at bike rack).

Accelerated Reader

AR is no longer being purchased by the District. There has been a significant drop in the number of quizzes being taken and I am not sure whether it continues to be the most effective model. If you REALLY are tied to the program, please email me (please no more than a paragraph) so I can gauge and have a discussion about whether our site wants to purchase it for next year.

Solano Library Summer Reading Challenge

Tell your students! Tell your parents! Let's get them reading ALL summer.

Even adults can participate!
