Week of September 15-20

What Did We Do This Week?

Monday-International Dot Day! Today we read The Dot by Peter Reynolds. This inspirational story was fun to read. We then discussed ways we could make a mark. Students then created their own mark with water colors. Check out the picture below.

Tuesday-Guidance Day! Mrs. Joyner is beginning to discuss the six pillars of character. She is starting to talk with us about being trustworthy. We also created our own green book. We partner read our books. Students also had a chance to explore the laptops today. The students visited again and learned more about using the keypad mouse and navigating the tools of the laptop. They are even doing a great job of plugging in their headphones into the laptops.

Wednesday-In writing, we began generating ideas for things we do in September. Each month, we write about our favorite part of the month. We hang these in our classroom each month. By the end of the year, we see a huge improvement in writing. Students had great ideas about things they do in the month of September. They are working hard making their letters and sounding out words!

Thursday-Wonder Lounge Day! Students visited the wonder lounge today to learn how to partner read. Students also took turns on the fun furniture for choice and comfort. Thursday is also our art day and students created 3-D dot day masterpieces.

Friday-Non-Fiction Friday! Students read and learned about apples in the weekly Let's Find Out. The buzz word was orchard. Enjoy looking and reading about this during the weekend. It is coming home in your child's folder. In math, we discussed ways to sort objects! We came up with sorting by size, shape, and color. We used buttons to generate our ideas!
