Math Homework
We have begun working on different strategies to solve double digit computation in math. It is really important that the children are not just memorizing steps (procedures) but that they understand the concepts involved in solving the equations. Page 81 in the Homelink book can give you some examples of ways we have talked about in class.
Ballpark Estimates are basically rounding numbers. In class we refer to the multiples of 10 as "decade" numbers and tell the children to estimate to the closest decade when doing these ballpark estimates.
If Homelink 4.8 is difficult for your child, please just have them do the best they can. This type of work that requires number sense is more natural for some children than others. This is a skill we will continue to work on and practice the rest of the year.
