The Revolution
Cody Sturgill
A political revolution is an upheaval in which the government is replaced, or the form of government altered. Also it could be a change in political systems. A leader could be overthrown.
The American Revolution
The colonists that lived in America were forced to pay taxes and other stuff from King George. They felt they did not have the freedom they deserved or were promised. They declared war against Great Britain and gained independence from them.
The French Revolution
The French were taxed, similar to the colonists in America. The French Revolution began in 1789 and ended in the late 1790s with the ascent of Napoleon Bonaparte. During this period, French citizens razed and redesigned their country’s political landscape, uprooting centuries-old institutions such as absolute monarchy and the feudal system. Like the American Revolution before it, the French Revolution was influenced by Enlightenment ideals, particularly the concepts of popular sovereignty and inalienable rights.
The Russian (October) Revolution
In 1917, two revolutions swept through Russia, ending centuries of imperial rule and setting in motion political and social changes that would lead to the formation of the Soviet Union. In March, growing civil unrest, coupled with chronic food shortages, erupted into open revolt, forcing the abdication of Nicholas II. Just months later, the newly installed provisional government was itself overthrown by the more radical Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin.
