Boundary Update
Final Community Forum & Online Survey
Good Afternoon,
The District has held two Community Forums to gather public feedback about the draft scenarios for new elementary, middle and high school boundaries developed by the Boundary Committee. The final Community Forum is scheduled for Monday, September 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at South Middle School. If you have not had an opportunity to weigh in on the boundaries, we encourage you to attend Monday's meeting. Additionally, the online survey will be open through the end of the month where you can also leave feedback related to the draft boundary scenarios.
All of the feedback gathered through the Community Forum meetings and the online survey, which has already been taken by over 1,500 individuals, will be used by the independent consultant and the committee to further develop the new boundaries in October and November before making a final recommendation to the Board of Education in December. Please note: these scenarios are approximately 60% complete and will not be finalized until they are approved by the Board of Education.

A question that has been consistently raised through the Community Forum meetings, emails, and the survey, is who will populate the new high school the first year that it opens. This is not something the Boundary Committee was tasked with determining. A grade span recommendation was presented to the Board of Education at the regular meeting on Thursday and the Board decided to table the recommendation and schedule a work session to further analyze and discuss that topic. The work session, which will be open to the public, is scheduled for October 16 at 3:00 pm at the Administrative Center.
We fully recognize that with every attendance area that is adjusted, students and families are affected and District leadership is certainly mindful of that. District leaders also understand there are areas that have been moved more than once over the last decade given our growth and the addition of 11 new schools during that time. “We will work with the committee to be conscious of areas that have moved schools previously, while understanding there will be students across all grade levels affected by the new boundaries,” shared Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain. “The good news is all WSD schools are exceptional and have highly qualified staff who are committed to the success of all students.”
