A Note from the Principal
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. Today, October 7, is the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This feast was created to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church. During this month, Catholics honor Mary and pray the rosary. I encourage you to set aside time as a family to celebrate the month of the rosary in one of the following ways:
- Pray the rosary together as a family. Click here if you need a refresher.
- Participate in the Outdoor Living Rosary sponsored by the SPB Ladies Guild on Saturday, October 10 following 10:30 a.m. Mass right here on our campus.
- Make a rosary with your kids. Follow these directions.
- Create a small Our Lady of the Rosary altar in your home.
With October upon us, it seems like schedules tend to get even more hectic. The year is definitely in full swing with many activities going on and clubs meeting each week--HSPT Prep Class, DARE, Girls on the Run, STEM Club, Brain Brawl, and Scout groups. CYO sports teams are also enjoying successful seasons. SPB is a busy place, and it is impressive to see our students actively involved in a variety of academic activities as well as athletics. Good luck to our seventh and eighth graders competing in Brain Brawl at St. Ignatius High School on Saturday!
I hope that I will see you at our Mass with Bishop Malesic on Wednesday. We are excited to have Bishop Malesic at Saint Paschal Baylon for his first pastoral visit to our school. We are grateful to our seventh graders who will lead the Mass on Wednesday.
In the midst of our busy lives at home and at school, be sure to take some time to reflect on the autumn beauty that will soon surround us as temperatures cool and the leaves change. Enjoy the splendor of this beautiful season that God has provided!
Grace and blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal
SEASONAL UNIFORM EXTENSION
Bishop Malesic Visits Wednesday, Oct. 13
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 13 at 9:00 a.m. You are invited to join us for a very special school Mass as Bishop Edward Malesic joins us for his first pastoral visit to our school. Please have your child wear his/her regular school uniform the day of Bishop Malesic’s visit, Wednesday, October 13. Students who have physical education on that day may bring their gym uniforms to school and change after Mass. Thank you!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION HIGHLIGHT
Will SPB offer simultaneous learning if my child must isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19?
At this time we will not be offering simultaneous learning. This question was addressed in previous newsletters in a Frequently Asked Questions section; however, we thought it was important to highlight it once again. Thankfully, our quarantines have been very few. Also, with a change in guidelines from the Ohio Department of Health, quarantines are shorter than they were last year.
Some points to remember:
- Teachers will provide work to students just as they would for a regular extended absence. Work can be picked up or taken home by a sibling.
- Older students will also be able to access Google Classroom just as they always have.
- Teachers are available to assist as needed. Older students can initiate contact via email and Google Classroom or parents of younger students can communicate with the teachers by phone or email.
- When appropriate, teachers can schedule a Zoom or Google Meet session with students in quarantine or isolation to answer questions, clarify material, or simply check in with students.
Hot Lunch Menu Changes
Mrs. Consolo, our Cafeteria Manager has notified us that currently we are in the middle of a national food shortage with our food distributors. So unfortunately she is not able to get many items listed on next week's menu. Here is a list of the changes for the week of October 11:
Monday, October 11th will no longer be Garlic French Bread Pizza, it will be Hot Dogs.
Wednesday, October 13th will no longer be Pancakes, it will be French Toast Sticks.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Walkathon Update
The Walkathon has currently raised more than $25,000 this year in support of our students and school! Thank you!!
The laps have been counted, the t-shirts ordered, and October 22nd will be here soon. Keep your eyes peeled for volunteer sign-ups in your inboxes soon--we will need volunteers to distribute the t-shirts as well as help on the day of the Walkathon.

Playground Volunteers Needed-Grades 4-5-6-7
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:15 am-12:50 pm. There are many, many time slots open! We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:10 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting the students to and from the school doors. Volunteers will be with one school staff member each day to help direct.
Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
COVID-19 Volunteer Protocol: all recess volunteers are required to wear a mask when in the building.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the following links to sign up: Grade 7, Grade 6, Grade 5, Grade 4
