Weekly Update for Week of May 2 - May 5
Good Evening Brightwood Family, this is Principal Stokes!
Welcome to another great week of learning. Happy Sunday! This is reminder that our doors open at 7:00 am and tardy bell rings at 7:25 am. Please remember that everyone should be prepared to show identification card when picking up a student early which should be for emergencies and appointments should be done before 1:45 pm.
This week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week please take the time to let our wonderful Brightwood Staff know how much you appreciate them this week and every week. Our scheduled School Based Leadership Team Meeting is this week at 3:00 pm in the Media Center.
Each morning from 7:25 – 8:00 am our students are engaged in EOG prep it is very difficult for the students to get the needed practice and feedback if they are late daily as we work to prepare them for the EOG assessment.
Thank you all for supporting our Spring Book Fair and Field Day both events were of great success.
5th Grade students will be taking their Math Interim Assessment on Wednesday this week. Please make sure that they are present and alert and ready to rock and roll.
The federal waivers that allowed all schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students are ending this summer. To ensure that students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are able to receive those meals on the first day of school, we are asking parents to fill out the application at www.lunchapplication.com. This will establish a family’s qualifications for meal discounts for the first 30 days of the 2022-23 school year. A new application must be completed after July 1 for the remainder of the school year.
We will be have Beautification Day on May 14th, 2022. A signup sheet will be sent out on ClassDojo this week if you would like to help us beautify and clean up our school campus.
Parents as the weather and seasons are changing, we are in great need of your support in making sure that all students are their proper rest. Please create a set schedule that limits your child’s screen time, phone time, and TV time. It would also be beneficial that they have a reasonable set sleep time that will allow them to get enough sleep to function in school.
The district has provided new One Cards for all students. One Cards are a safety measure to assure that we know who is on our buses and in our school buildings each day. Please help your child keep track of their One Card and have it on each morning. One Cards are needed to get on the bus each morning. Also, One Cards are scanned each morning when they enter the building.
Early voting started on Thursday, April 28. The ballot includes a proposal for a school bond that will address critical safety and maintenance needs in our schools. Guilford County Schools currently has more than $2 billion in facility needs, including more than $800 million in deferred maintenance. The ballot will also include a question about a fraction of a penny sales and use tax, which will help keep property taxes low and spread the cost of the bond to those who visit Guilford County. We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tiger this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo.
Thank you for all that you do and have a great evening. Remember you are amazing!
Love Always Your Principal
