Dear Parents / Carers,

What a busy week we have had this week! The week started with flu immunisations on Monday. The children were very sensible and we had a great uptake which should help to protect us all a little more over the coming autumn and winter.

On Thursday, Year 6 spent the morning orienteering outside and learning valuable map skills. It was a chilly morning but everyone had fun and worked together well.

Today we have all worn yellow to raise awareness of children's mental health. It is estimated that 1 in 4 children will suffer with mental health issues at some point over the course of their school life. In our RHSE lessons, the children learn about what mental health is and why it is important to be aware of it and nurture strong mental health alongside their physical health. We are very lucky to have a school Learning Mentor (Mrs Bamforth) who is trained in the Thrive approach to help pupils who may need some additional support in this area. Please do speak to your children about their feelings and emotional health regularly so that support can be put in place quickly. It also helps hugely if you can inform us of any changes at home which may impact a child's mental health such as a change in relationships, a new baby or house move.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Karen Williams

However, if you meet certain criteria, your child may be eligible for Free School Meals for the whole of their primary education as well as additional funding to support them with their education, called a 'Pupil Premium'. To qualify for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium funding, you must fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month);
  • Income Support;
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance;
  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit;
  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC); or
  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.

If your family circumstances change, you may become eligible. Please see the North Yorkshire website below for more information and to access the relevant application forms.
