Support the PTA Reflections Program!
Hello, WHS teachers and staff!
My name is Tricia Nelson and this will be my second year as the PTA Reflections chairperson. WHS has had a huge turnout in past years for the National PTA Reflections Program. Last year, we had 40 student entries and, of those, 29 entries moved on to the Council Level. What was truly awesome was that 6 of our WHS student entries made it all the way to State!!
This year I would like to take on the challenge of diversifying our WHS student entries. Most of our student submissions were for the Visual Arts category. Last year, there were less than a handful of entries by our students for the other five categories: Music Composition, Literature, Dance Choreography, Photography, and Film Production.
I could definitely use your help! I would love for you to encourage your students to participate in the Reflections program. Perhaps you may want to consider how this year's theme could be linked to curriculum and other learning objectives in your classroom. I have included a link to the National PTA Reflections video promoting this year's theme, "Heroes Around Me".
In the coming weeks, more information regarding the Reflections Program will be made available to you and the school families. The PTA will once again be hosting "Start your Art" workshops for students interested in entering a project in the Visual Arts category. However, with your help, maybe we can initiate many more submissions in some of the other Reflections categories.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to working with you in any way I can to continue to make the PTA Reflections a successful program for our WHS students.
Sincerely,
Tricia Nelson

Instructional Facilitator Role
Thank you for such a warm welcome back. The positivity and support this week has made this transition as smooth as possible. This week I was able to touch base with the grade level PLCs, and based on our conversations I just want to clarify a few new changes with my role.
The goal of the IFs (instructional facilitators) is to support the teachers in our buildings in the areas of curriculum, SEL and professional development. The link below highlights my role. Please know this list could change and my role is not limited to just the things listed.
Please direct any questions, needs and/or feedback in any of the above areas towards me. I will then touch base with Dave, other IFs and/or the Chief Academic Officer to get your questions answered and your needs met.
Currently here are some IF “hot topics” being discussed at PLCs and at meetings
Implementing curriculum using the new Promethean Board
Report Card and Standard Discussion
Social Studies and Science Curriculum
Teacher Needs for PD on Institute Day
EL Education Curriculum
Technology Issues around curriculum

Family:
I grew up near St. Louis, Missouri, with my parents, Lyndon and Kelly Nicks, and younger sister, Christie. Now they all live near Rockford, Illinois. Last year, my husband Aaron, three year old son Christian, and I moved here from Indiana. Last August, we added another son, Luke, to our family. We also have a cat named Sprinkle who has been with me since high school.
We took our first vacation with both of the boys! It looked very different from what our vacations have been like in the past but it was so fun in its own way. It was definitely a success and we look forward to many more!

Ideas Worth Sharing
I came across this article that I thought was very timely for what is the beginning of evaluation season. It provides some great ideas of evidence that could be collected during formal or informal observations.
