We are here for you
Jenn Sebold, Principal
Felicia Boyd, 6th Grade Principal
Nikki Goldfeder, 6th Grade Counselor
6th grade orientation was a success today! Thank you for sending us your children!
Do you have questions? See below for some FAQs about the first day of school!
When can I drop off my child? Students can begin arriving at 7:55 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16th. The building will not be open until this time.
How does parent drop-off work? CLICK HERE to get to the web page that describes the drop-off and pick-up procedures.
Can I come to school with my child on the first day of school? While we understand how difficult it is to drop your child off in a new and unfamiliar school, please know we will take care of him/her. We ask that you drop your student off and we will take it from there! However, there will be multiple opportunities for you to be involved at NEMS. Please call or email Nikki Goldfeder if you are interested in volunteering for school events.
I have a question about transportation, who do I contact? CLICK HERE to get contact information for transportation in Parkway.
What time does school actually start? The first hour begins promptly at 8:20 a.m. Students will have time to eat breakfast in our Great Hall if they arrive early enough.
What will my child's day look like? Here is a sample of a 6th grade schedule.
On the first day of school, students will spend an hour with their entire team at the beginning of the day and an hour with their team at the end of the day. This is when teachers will collect supplies, assign lockers, get to know the students and go over expectations for the year.
Who is my child's "team"? Every student is assigned to a team. This consists of a math teacher, a science teacher, a geography teacher, and two English teachers. On an average, there are about 75-100 students per team.
How do I see my own child's schedule? Schedules are now live in Infinte Campus. If you are having trouble accessing IC, please email the help desk at
IC-parenthelp@parkwayschools.net
I wasn't able to pick up my child's Chromebook. What should I do now? If you have visited the registration website at https://www.one2onerisk.com/ and either paid for insurance for the device or opted out, then we can issue the Chromebook to your child at school this week.
Can my child decorate his/her Chromebook? Students are not able to decorate or personalize the district Chromebooks; however, at open house this year (Monday, August 28 from 6:30-7:30 pm), we will be selling Chromebook covers. If you purchase one of these hard shell covers, your child can decorate that as it will snap on and off the device.
Can my child decorate his/her Chromebook bag? We ask that you not physically mark the bag as it may be reassigned to another student at some point in the future; however, feel free to add a luggage tag to the bag that identifies it as your child's property.
Can my child decorate his/her locker? Students are able to decorate the inside of the lockers; however, unless it is a special event, like a birthday, we will not allow outer decorations.
When is the school store open? Our school store is open every day that school is in session from 7:55 - 12:50. CLICK HERE for more information.
I have a health concern for my child. Who should I tell? Our Nurse's name is Kimberly Morelli. She can be contacted at kmorelli@parkwayschools.net
I want my child to be involved in after school activities. What is available and when do they meet? CLICK HERE for the full list of after school activities and information about transportation after they end.
Does my child have to dress out for physical education? Students are welcomed to change clothes and we do provide a safe and secure space to do so; however, they are not required to. We do ask that they have athletic shoes for participation in PE.
I understand all 6th graders attend camp this year. When will we learn about that? Your student will bring home information regarding camp. This will happen some time near the end of August or beginning of September.
I had the school supply list, but can't find the link anymore. CLICK HERE for the 6th grade school supply list this year.
What is the school's cell phone policy for students? The student handbook describes this in depth and your child will bring this home for review; however, cell phones are permitted at the teacher's discretion when part of the instructional process. Otherwise, cell phones should be turned off and put out of sight. Please know that NEMS is not responsible for the loss or theft of any personal electronic device.
I like to use social media. Does NEMS post information on facebook or twitter? Yes, we do have a facebook and twitter account. Find us on facebook @ParkwayNortheastMiddle and on twitter @newsfromnems .
My family is in need of resources. Who should I contact? We consider all members of the NEMS community family. If you are in need of any physical resources or referrals to agencies that may be able to help, please call or email your child's counselor, NIkki Goldfeder at ngoldfeder@parkwayschools.net
