Language Arts and Reading
This week we finished up reading about volcanoes and earthquakes. We are learning how to identify causes and effects of volcanoes and earthquakes and how they can change the earth's surface.
We are practicing how to find clues in sentences to figure out meanings of words. Continue having your child practice this skill at home when you come to words they may not be familiar with.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, Math, and graphing
Last week we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. To help celebrate, we read a variety of books by him and then created a bar graph to show which Dr. Seuss book is the most popular in our class.
We also had a gummy fish snack and created a bar graph that matched our snack. Red fish seemed to be the most common color of gummy.
We are really working hard on answering questions that go along with bar graphs. We are working on identifying key words for addition and subtraction now that we are answering questions that ask, "how many more kids voted for cats than dogs."
