It's Been a Great Week at Hoover!
OFFICE NOTIFICATIONS NOW COMING BY EMAIL
In our efforts to communicate with parents in a more timely manner, office communications, including DISCIPLINE REPORTS, TEST SCORES, and REPORT CARDS will be emailed to the email address listed in Power School. Emailing these reports will not only allow us to get them to parents in a more timely manner, but also allow us to be more environmentally friendly and fiscally responsible. If you need to update your email address at any time, you can do so on the school website under the FOR PARENTS link.
GOOD LUCK HOOVER ROBOTICS!
The Hoover Robotics team competes this Saturday in Martinsville. Our students have been working very hard all year designing and practicing with their robots for this exciting event. Thank you to all of the Hoover Robotics staff and parents for making this such a rewarding program.
SPELLING TIGERS
Congratulations to all of our students who participated in our school-wide spelling bee this week. Each classroom winner competed in the school-wide competition on Thursday. Hoover is so lucky to have so many excellent spellers that the competition had to be recessed on Thursday and resumed Friday morning in order to determine our spelling champion and runner-up. Congratulations to Champion Speller Sarah Smith and Runner-up Josh Inskeep on your huge accomplishment! Hoover is very proud of you!
Congratulations to our 2020 Spelling Bee Winners!
Runner-Up Josh Inskeep and Champion Sarah Smith

Notes from the Nurse
Tummy aches are one of the most common reasons why students visit me in the clinic. Not all tummy aches are a concern for a visit to the doctor or for parents to be concerned. I wanted to share some of the main reasons for tummy aches.
1. At the beginning of the school year and after a long break, I often see students in the clinic complaining of a tummy ache. A new routine, new school, and being homesick may cause this.
2. Another common cause is food in their diets. Students consume new foods or often eat too quickly at school and at home. Sometimes giving 30 minutes to rest and allow time for the food to digest relieves the tummy ache.
3. Excess physical activity during P.E. or at recess can also trigger a stomachache. Simply giving hydration and allowing the child to rest in the clinic, usually does the trick!
4. Unfortunately, germs are everywhere! A student may encounter germs from other children, and sometimes a contagious GI infection may be the culprit. If the child has symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or signs of weakness or dehydration, a visit to the doctor may be necessary.
In most cases, hydration, mild pain relievers, rest, and a friendly smile usually does the trick! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Sabrina Cyr BSN, RN
