Community of Readers Day - March 1st
Hershey students will celebrate reading on March 1st. We are inviting community members to create a short video of themselves reading a favorite book and sharing a bit about what they do in the community (their job/career). If you would like to participate, please create your video and email it to me (stwilliams@tsc.k12.in.us) or to Mrs. Tilton (altilton@tsc.k12.in.us) by February 28th. We are creating a large pool of videos for teachers to choose from and share with students on March 1.
IREAD-3
3rd grade students will take the IREAD-3 test on Monday, March 4th. This is a standardized state reading assessment. The attached slideshow gives more information if you are interested. In my opinion, this is a very fair test -- if you are an at-grade level (or above) reader, you will have no problem with the test. And we are ALL above-grade level readers!! My message to my students about these kinds of assessments: Tests are important, but they are NOT something to worry or stress about. It is just an opportunity to for us to show all that we know. We try our best and then move on -- no test will ever define who you are! Please reinforce this message at home to help de-stress the test!
Parent Conferences
Wow -- time flies! It is almost time to sign up for spring parent conferences. Conference week is March 11 - 14. Once again, I will send out a Google Calendar invite with time slots to sign up for a conference time. It can be an in-person, virtual (Zoom), or phone conference -- whichever you prefer. Parents with siblings will have the opportunity to schedule first on Feb. 21st. Scheduling will open for all on Feb. 23rd. I look forward to speaking with everyone about your awesome kids!!
Eagle Cam
Each day, we check in on an Eagle Cam, located in Big Bear, California. The bonded eagle pair, Jackie (female) and Shadow (male), are fascinating to watch. Last week, Jackie added a 3rd egg to her clutch! We are hoping for some eaglets at the beginning of March! If students (and you) would like to check in on the eagles at home, here is the YouTube LINK.
Book It!
February Book It sheets are due Fri., March 1st. Don't forget the parent signature!! (this is an optional activity). March Book It! sheets will come home this day, too.
Attendance Line and Dismissal Changes
If your child is going to be absent from school, the office asks you to please call the Hershey Attendance Line at 765-269-8342. Also, if there is a change in your child's dismissal, please call the Hershey Office directly before 2:30 at 765-269-8280 rather than emailing the teacher(s).....we don't always check our email and don't want to miss anything. Thanks!!
