A Note from Mr. Gahan

Hello Coralville Central Families,

It was a wonderful week back to school! It is great to see all the children and teachers back in the building. The rain was much-needed, but I wish it could have held off for about an hour on that first day of school….and third day. As always, adults and kids managed extremely well!

Thank you for your patience dropping off and picking up students. We realize there are a lot of moving parts. The safety of the students is the most important thing for us. The carlines are becoming more efficient and it will continue to move faster each day.

We understand that issues arise throughout the day and you have to call school to change plans. The office becomes very busy at the end of the school day. If you could please call the office as soon as you know your plans are changing, that would be very helpful for the office staff and classroom teachers.

Finally, we would like to ask that parents and visitors come to the front office door and ring the doorbell for access. Staff will remain at all entrances to help students get to their classrooms. At this time, visitors are not permitted in the building beyond the office. This is for the health and overall safety of our students. Thank you for understanding.

Have a great weekend! I am sure the children will be a little tired--I know the adults are.

Thanks,

Andy Gahan

Principal, Coralville Central Elementary

Message on Masks and Vaccines (8/11/21)

To help slow the spread of COVID-19, the Iowa City Community School District strongly encourages universal indoor mask use for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to our schools, regardless of vaccination status. This is based on guidance from the CDC. In addition, the President’s Executive Order on domestic transportation requires students and staff to wear a face-covering while on a school bus or while utilizing other District-provided transportation.

In addition, the District strongly encourages eligible individuals to get the COVID-19 vaccine. For individuals 12 years of age and older who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, this vaccine locator may be used to find a provider near you.

Bussing

Bussing is provided for students who live 2+ miles from school (using the district calculator). If your child was online last year and previously had bussing, you'll need to fill the bus application form and get it turned into transportation.

Along with the regular bus routes, there is a Pay to Ride Option. Some students will qualify for this but it requires an application to be filled out (EVERY YEAR) along with payment sent to the district (or the Free/Reduced Application online form to be filled out). There has to be an available route in order for students to be placed on it.

Please be patient once forms are filled out - it takes some time for all the students to be placed on a bus. In the meantime, you and your family need to have a plan on how your student will get to/from school until bussing is decided.

Bus information for your student is on Infinite Campus - log in and go to the top left, click on the horizontal lines, click on MORE and then go to TRANSPORTATION.

Library Information

Hello from the Library - Devin Redmond

Top 5 Things!

1. Library class is scheduled. We are working on getting checkout times for each room in the building. Please return library books as soon as you are all done reading them. Read the books to your kids if they are still learning to read. It can be a relaxing and device-free few minutes!

2. For some of us, COVID has made us spend more time on our phones instead of reading books. Can we all work on building our reading stamina this year? Can we make it a goal as a whole Coralville Central community? Let’s all try to build some time for reading into our routines. I love to give recommendations if you need one.

3. Our school library book catalog is here.

4. The CC Library has a Google Voice number. If you have a quick question, you can text us. We will get back to you as soon as we can. 319.435.8220

5. IF your child has not brought their Chromebook and charger to school, please send it to school. For the most part, devices will stay at school.
