How Can I Help at Cherry Park?
Tomorrow night, we will have our first School Improvement Council (SIC) meeting and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting of the year. (Our SIC Meeting will be 5:30 PM at the Central Office because we are receiving an award at the School Board Meeting for becoming a "Green" Energy Efficient School. We will meet at the CO after receiving the award. Our normal SIC meetings will be in the "Fishbowl" at 5:30. Our PTO Meeting will be at 6:30 PM in the Media Center.) All parents are invited to attend our SIC and PTO meetings to help volunteer input and support. But, what are other ways to volunteer? And, what do you want to consider before you do? 1. Think about your interests and passions. Your hobby may be the solution to one of our needs. Do you love landscaping and gardening? We have a need. Do you enjoy interior decorating? We have a need. Do you love reading? We have a need. Do you like taking clutter and putting it into order? We have a need. Do you love to run? We have a need. (One of my favorite volunteers is Mr. Aldridge, a granddad who lives in Pageland. He enjoys helping me grill out a few times a year.) You never know how your special interest could help us become a better school. 2. Think about your availability. Sometimes your availability is way more important than your ability. We have situations where we could use a hand on a monthly or weekly or daily basis. If you have fifteen minutes a week, we would love to have help picking up litter on the perimeter of our campus. If you have fifteen minutes twice a week in the morning, it would be good to have help supervising during drop off and welcoming our kids to school. Know that you can "try it out" before you commit to doing something long term. A few minutes can strategically make a big difference. 3. Think about your resources. Would you or your business want to be a sponsor for our Bobcat Dash fundraiser? (See link below.) Does your company have a grant program? Do you have office supplies or paper that go to waste? Is your church or volunteer organization looking for opportunities to partner and serve? Do you have extra furniture you no longer need? (Across the district we have many new teachers who have just moved to Rock Hill and are setting up new apartments). Your interest, availability or resource may not always be a match for our needs, but you never know. Here's what I do know. We can't and don't make a life changing difference in children alone. It takes all of us doing our part. We appreciate all the ways that you support our school and your children by what you do when they are not at Cherry Park. I simply want you to know that you are always welcome at our school to help us invest in our kids.
Mr. Maness, Principal
P.S. Feel free to contact Mrs. Futrelle (firstname.lastname@example.org) or myself if you'd like to have a conversation about how you can volunteer. PTO will also help in that process. In addition, please see below about the need for volunteers for Let Me Run.
Let Me Run
COACHES NEEDED FOR LET ME RUN AT CHERRY PARK ELEMENTARY. VOLUNTEER AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF BOYS!!!
Let Me Run begins September 24th at Cherry Park Elementary provided we find coaches. Please help! Coaches can be male or female, runners or non-runners, you just need to have a sincere interest in helping boys develop their character. Let Me Run is a running program for 4th - 5th grade boys, but it’s more about the boy than the run. Counteracting the negative pressures society places on boys, the program uses running as the vehicle to inspire, teach, and reach them. Combining exercise with fun activities and lessons, Let Me Run inspires boys to be courageous enough to be themselves, build healthy relationships, and live an active lifestyle.
Let Me Run meets for 1 hour 15 minutes after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 24th. The season will end with the inaugural Upper Palmetto Let Me Run 5K To be held at the Winthrop Coliseum /Winthrop Lake area on November 9th.
