The International Cure Panel

Dan Zenka, Vice President, Communications, Prostate Cancer Foundation

Dan Zenka, senior vice president of the Prostate Cancer Foundation was diagnosed with prostate cancer in April 2010 at the age of 51. He had a radical prostatectomy in June and was subsequently diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic cancer. He completed seven weeks of radiation treatment in December 2010 and endured two years of androgen deprivation therapy, which he is soon concluding. Dan blogs his prostate cancer experience on his blog, MyNewYorkMinute to share information and patient perspectives.

Dan Hennessey, Prostate Cancer Survivor and Author

Dan Hennessey was diagnosed with prostate cancer 6 years ago and in his own words, ‘has seen life go from ordinary to extraordinary’. During his battle and victory against prostate cancer, Dan has dedicated his time to making a difference in the lives of those going through this disease in addition to doing his part to raise awareness. Dan authored a book on his prostate cancer journey – With The Snap of a Glove in 2010 which received rave reviews and offers the message of ‘hope’ to all diagnosed with prostate cancer. Dan was honored with the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal for his work with Prostate Cancer Advocacy in 2012.

Terry Herbert, Prostate Cancer Survivor and Advocate

Terry Herbert was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1996 when he was 54 years of age. He logged onto the Internet soon after diagnosis and discovered that, even then, concern was being expressed about unnecessary treatment of men with variants of the disease that were likely to be indolent. He chose not to have invasive therapy despite the advice of the doctors he consulted in South Africa, where he was living at the time, Australia and the USA. With the help of another Australian couple – the Morrisons – he established a website which was entitled YANA – You Are Not Alone Now at http://www.yananow.org. In addition to the website Terry authored a booklet aimed primarily at men who do not have access to the Internet. Approximately 800 copies of this booklet have been mailed out at no cost. The booklet can be downloaded from the site at http://www.yananow.org/StrangePlace/index.html.

Gary Petersen, Editor, Myeloma survivor, and Advocate

Gary is the editor of myelomasurvival.com and a 6 year survivor of multiple myeloma. He is now 6 years into CR post a stem cell transplant. He works with Myeloma specialists to provide life expectancy and survival rate data through his site.
