Pirate Peacemakers
Mrs. Opperman will be working with some select students, called Pirate Peacemakers, in the coming weeks. These students will be trained to help peers solve conflicts peacefully. They will be peer mediators for our students. They will train for several weeks and then they will start working with their peers in the spring. These students had to go through an application process and get two referrals, just as they would for a job. They also had to participate in an interview. There were 24 students who applied and 14 were selected. Congratulations to our C.F. Holliday Pirate Peacemakers:
Alahna Ramby, Graycee Phillips, Jasaya Nichols, Katie Dalton, Makenna McCune, Michael Richmond, Pyper Monroe, Serenity Foster, Tristin Parrish, Aniya Foward, Dana Shehadeh, Gracie Havens, Jacy Dubon & Jozef Sacta

Coffee with the Counselor
We are pleased to introduce a new resource called Coffee with the Counselor. Coffee with the Counselor is an opportunity for parents to add tools to their parenting “toolbox” by attending a brief, informal workshop hosted by one of our elementary School Counselors Miss. Jasmine Tolbert and Mrs. Sara Opperman. Snacks and refreshments will be served and there will be a question and answer period as well. Coffee with the Counselor will take place quarterly and will cover the following topics:
Second quarter: Effective parenting roles: The coach, the problem solver, and the limit-setter; hosted by Mrs. Opperman, registration is from 3:45-4:00pm and the workshop is from 4:00-4:30pm on Monday December 11, 2017.
Third quarter: Setting limits and avoiding arguments; hosted by Ms. Tolbert, time and location TBD
Fourth Quarter: Using effective consequences; hosted by Mrs. Opperman, time and location TBD

WCEF Grant Update
Miss Jordan was one of Holliday's teachers who recieved a WCEF grant at the end of last school year. She requested reading center games for her students. The materials are in and her students have been really enjoying them. According to Miss Jordan, the reading center activities have been going great! Her students have been learning from the hands on experience with making words by rolling dice and also finding where the sound changes in a word (beginning, middle, end). Not only has she seen progress, but she's also seen students working well together and building friendships. They have been great at helping each other understand how to play!
