Creighton Awarded Institute for Mexicans Abroad Scholarship
The Institute for Mexicans Abroad, in partnership with the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix has awarded $10,000 to the Creighton Community Education Department through a competitive application process. This award is $6,000 greater than last year’s award. Creighton District’s application was the only one selected in the category of adult education. Creighton's carefully written application, along with the positive reputation of the district’s adult education program, and the district’s long standing collaboration with the Mexican Consulate were all factors that contributed to the success of the application.
The Creighton Community Education department will dedicate these funds to expanding GED and English Literacy classes for adults. These courses are in high demand. During the 2018-2019 school year, 38 students attended GED classes and 14 obtained their GED diploma. In addition, 245 students took English Literacy classes. The funds from The Institute for Mexicans Abroad and the Consulate General helped to make these opportunities possible, and will be used to broaden their impact in the year ahead.

Creighton Leadership Staff Participate in Implicit Bias Training
Implicit biases are stereotypes, assumptions, and attitudes we're not fully aware of that shape our behavior towards people from different social groups.
Staff participated in exercises to gain understanding of where biases come from, how biases operate, the meaning of micro-aggressions, and how to recognize your own biases and how to learn and grown from them.
