Edition II
The Week
On occasion, students make the unfortunate choice to resort to physical means to resolve conflict. When this occurs, it is a serious concern for us. Whenever there is an incident involving a physical altercation between students, we respond with appropriate investigation measures and disciplinary consequences, as appropriate. More importantly, we also take steps to work with the students involved to help resolve these conflicts and to help build the skills needed to help make better choices in these situations.
Earlier this week, there was a physical altercation on campus. As an immediate response, we are ensuring that additional personnel are assigned to provide supervision at recess. Furthermore, targeted student activities have been scheduled to help reinforce school-wide expectations, as well as how to respond to concerns and how to report them.
When our students behave in a way that is not in line with the culture of our school, it is disheartening. I want to remind students and parents that fighting is never an acceptable way to resolve conflict. Every adult at Lago Vista Middle School has an open door to help students resolve conflicts, and we encourage students to reach out to adults if they need help or want to report a problem. In addition to resolving conflicts without physical violence, it is also expected that our students should have no part in cheering on, running to, recording, or doing anything else that encourages or promotes fighting. I also want our students to understand that, in addition to being a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, recording and sharing videos of students engaged in negative behaviors promotes an inaccurate image of our school.
Lago Vista Middle School is a great place filled with amazing students and dedicated staff. It is my hope that our students, parents, and community commit to helping build and promote the positive culture that we all expect...and that our students deserve.
Our staff will be reinforcing this message to our students in the days ahead and we greatly appreciate the help of our parents in these efforts. We appreciate your continued support. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at eholt@lagovistaisd.net

Fundraiser!
We are excited to kick off the 2023-24 school year and can't wait for students to build strong relationships on campus.
I am hoping you might be willing to help us build a vibrant and connected school culture at LVMS. Fundraising is something that helps to fund student activities and give teachers additional resources to support students. Through our partnership with School Funding Group we are simply asking for a minimum $20 dollar donation, and for that donation, you will receive numerous discounts on brand names like Amazon, Home Depot, Nike and Oakley. These discounts can far outweigh the cost of your donation.
The proceeds of this fundraiser will help fund:
- Teacher Training
- Teacher Supplies
- Student Incentives
- Technology for the classroom
- UIL and OAP Supplies
- School Improvement
We appreciate any support you can give and can't wait for this to be the best school year ever!

Individuals who wish to refer a student for gifted and talented should complete and submit this form. Students can ONLY be screened once per year. This form must be submitted by Monday, October 2, 2023 for students in grades 1-12. Upon receipt of referrals, parents/guardians of referred students will receive a consent form to have their child screened for the Lago Vista ISD Gifted and Talented Education Program.
Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!

Student Registration
This message is to inform you that annual student registration is open in Ascender ParentPortal.
As a reminder, annual registration must be completed EACH YEAR because these forms provide us with important permissions and information that must be provided annually. It is also very important to note that the information provided in Ascender ParentPortal is what the school uses to contact parents in the event of an emergency, so it is very important that all information is correct and up-to-date.
HOW DO I ACCESS ASCENDER PARENT PORTAL?
https://portals13.ascendertx.com/ParentPortal/login?distid=227912
¿NECESITA ESPAÑOL?
Todos los formularios de registro también están en español. Para continuar en español, hay un menú desplegable en la esquina superior derecha de la página de inicio de sesión para cambiar al español.
WHAT IF I HAVE A NEWLY ENROLLED STUDENT? WHAT IF DON'T SEE MY ENROLLED STUDENT IN ASCENDER PARENTPORTAL?
If you enrolled your student during summer enrollment, you must still complete annual registration forms. If you don't see your enrolled student when you log in, an Ascender ParentPortal ID is needed in order to link to your student and complete the annual registration forms.
Please email registration@lagovistaisd.net and your campus registrar to receive your student's Ascender ParentPortal ID. Please note that there may be slight delays in answering requests during peak times, such as this, but we will get it to you as quickly as possible!
Once you receive your student's Ascender ParentPortal ID from the campus registrar, please log into Ascender ParentPortal, select "Link to Enrolled Student", and enter the ParentPortal ID and the student's date of birth.
WHAT IF I SEE MY STUDENT, BUT DON'T HAVE A "REGISTRATION" OPTION?
In order to complete forms or update data for a student, the email address you have listed in Ascender ParentPortal must match what we have in our system. If you can see your student, but can't update any information, those email addresses do not match. We recommend updating and verifying your email address in Ascender ParentPortal. If you need us to change your email address in our system, please email registration@lagovistaisd.net and your campus registrar. You will be asked to provide your student's full name, date of birth, and grade level for verification purposes.
