BC Learning Update
May 2018
Teacher at Work - 2018
The purpose of this course is to provide educators with an opportunity to observe and experience how the workplace applies to their curriculum. Participants will attend an orientation session and a summary session. The remainder of the time will be spent "on the job" in a 40 hour internship experience(s). There will also be an online component where participants will discuss their observations and discoveries. For further information contact the course instructor, Pat Highland at highland.pat@iowacityschools.org.
P.S. I have done this three times in my time here at BC: once with the City of Cedar Rapids Mayoral Office, once with Baumhoefener Nursery and once with the Landscape Architect at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. All three opportunities were full of great learning connections I could share with students.
Achieve the Core Mini-Assessments
See what they've learned
It's hard to believe it, but the end of the school year is just around the corner. Our mini-assessments in ELA and math offer standards-aligned items similar to those on summative assessments, and provide opportunities for students to demonstrate skills they’ve mastered this year.
The assessment collections also now offer more guidance for supporting English Language Learners (ELLs). In ELA, we’ve added a new section on implementing the assessment with ELLs. In math, in addition to updating many items, we’ve introduced new sections on vocabulary as well as information for teachers about the features of the assessments that particularly support ELLs.
